May 10, 2007 MANLY has given utility Michael Monaghan more time to decide whether he will play in the NRL or England next season, allowing him to concentrate on tomorrow night's home match against Parramatta.

Monaghan, who asked for permission to leave Manly at the end of the season despite having another year on his contract, was given until tomorrow to come back to the Sea Eagles with offers from rival clubs.

However, that has been extended until next Tuesday following a request from his manager Jim Banaghan, who was concerned the negotiations would affect his performance against the Eels.

Monaghan has had attention from four NRL clubs, although he appears more likely to accept a lucrative offer from England, where two Super League clubs have expressed interest.

One of those is believed to be Hull, the club led by former Manly coach Peter Sharp.

"Taking into account the biggest game of the year is on Friday night, we don't want his mind taken away from that game or his performance," Manly chief executive Grant Mayer said.

Mayer said a meeting had been scheduled with Monaghan on Tuesday before a board meeting the next day.

Banaghan will fly into Sydney on Monday to go through the offers with Monaghan and the pair will then meet Mayer, Manly coach Des Hasler and recruitment manager Noel Cleal.

"It will be done and dusted for Tuesday," Banaghan said.

Asked where Monaghan was likely to spend next year, Banaghan hinted a move to England was on the cards.

"I have a tendency to believe he will be closer to the North Pole than not," he said.

Monaghan has been in outstanding form for Manly this season, prompting some pundits to call for his inclusion in the NSW side for the opening game of the State of Origin series on May 23.

The Blues are struggling to find a form No.7, with Monaghan's Manly teammate Matt Orford among those jostling for the halfback position.

Meanwhile, wing Luke Rooney will see a specialist today over a neck problem which threatens his immediate future.

Rooney has been ruled out of Penrith's Saturday night game against North Queensland.

He had been mentioned as a possible NSW wing but his representative hopes have suffered due to his side's indifferent start to the year.

if he goes to England, then he made a play at a time when he believed he was a valuable commodity in the NRL and LOST. He should have just pulled his head in and stuck to playing with the Premiers for the next 2 years.

England is a sh!t place to visit let alone spend a year or so playing there.

I guess the consolation for Monas is, the pubs are a very cosy place to sit with mates and drink a beer and watch the replay of manly winning the grand final.

Closer to the north pole could also be Brisbane
