First Grader
There is a story doing the rounds, based on a 2UE report from John Gibbs on the Carlton Breakfast Show, that Michael Monaghan and an unamed senior player have been fined for taking holidays contrary to their playing contracts with Manly.
According to the report the Manly Captain did not attend the Club Presentation night but took a vacation instead, contrary to the conditions of the handbook supplied to players earlier in the season.
Amazingly some fans of the club are blaming Manly for singling him out and in doing so are reigniting the 'Monasgate - Do or Don't Sign' saga of the middle of the season. They are even ignorant supporters on the club's website forum claiming this is some sort of campaign to further undermine Monaghan, despite the fact that the club did not release this information to anyone and that management rather than the coaching staff would have been responsible for imposing the fine.
Bottom line is that the First Grade Captain was not even at the Club Presentation night, and has gone on a now 'infamous' holiday overseas with a departing reserve grade player and some 'mates' from another club. Hardly the behaviour of a player who 'bleeds for the club"!
