Menzies Joins Knights
Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - Newcastle Knights
Manly and New South Wales back-rower, Steve Menzies will share his secrets to success with Newcastle’s rising stars tonight at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
Menzies will be offloading financial knowledge to Junior Knights as a guest lecturer at a Financial Management Course, helping young footballers understand budgeting, superannuation, saving habits and how to seek support in financial matters.
“The more life skills we can teach our players, the more prepared they’ll be for day to day life,†said Recruitment and Welfare Manager, Michael McEntyre.
“Most of our juniors need jobs to survive financially but can’t work full-time due to heavy training commitments so financial education will be an asset.â€ÂÂ
The Newcastle Knights Welfare Program was launched last year with the introduction of “First Grade On and Off the Fieldâ€ÂÂ, a three week personal presentation course.
25 players received tuition on table manners, speech, body language and dress expectations. Due to its popularity, more are planned for 2007 and other NRL clubs have since applied the same course.
“It’s important we assist our players in becoming financially educatedâ€ÂÂ, said Knights CEO, Ken Conway.
This program is part of the process of pointing our players towards a secure financial future and helping them to prepare for life after football.â€ÂÂ
The Financial Organisation and Motivation Seminar will be delivered by the Imminent Wealth Academy.
