Massive turning point today

I haven't seen the game, but conceding 48 points.
How can our defence be so bad? And at home.

Have a look at the team currently coming first, the dogs. They were the worst team defensively 3 years ago
Their coach has got them into a defensive wall working for each other.

What has Spoony done to our defence? NOTHING
They also had a large turnover of players that have enabled them to do that, they had nothing to lose as they were running at the bottom end of the table.

The Dogs were ruthless in cutting players and moving them on, maybe that’s what’s needed at the club and they are starting with letting DCE go and building a team that will buy into the coaches game plan and club culture.

Same as it ever was, maxta. If we have all the ball and everything goes our way, we look great. There's no doubting our attacking ability - even tonight we scored some cracking tries. But we simply do not know what to do without the ball. We just cannot defend, or cope with any form of resistance. When fight is required, we fold. And for some reason none of our rotating staff of coaches and players over the year have been able to fix it.
We are a "good ball" footy team, with 0 backbone. Nothing more.

Without laying blame on the coach, as this has quite obviously been a team issue for a decade, but Seibold is not the coach to fix this. Nothing short of Wayne Bennett, or a complete overhaul of our roster, will change this.

It's very hard to respect Manly any more

Fair summary - going gets tough, Manly go missing
The side with competive old school tough players like Stewart's , Watmough, Foz who fought hard against adversity have been taken over by a team who enjoy piling on easy points and beat up the bottom teams, but get shown up as soft jelly underbellies against the teams who challenge them physically

Seriously guys come on did you really believe we were going to win…this season is no different from every other…nothing has changed it’s the same story year in year out…injury inconsistency incompetent players…I am sick of excuses set like but storm are the benchmark…why are they?…why aren’t we?…I am also sick of hearing our superstar fullback is out…until pen gets his stale ass out the door we will always be that same team unfortunately

I agree with you feathered friend . Sargent Seibold Shultz is not the answer

Seibold and Cameron Ciraldo have been coaching with their respective clubs since 2023
Seibold had started with a more competent roster
In those 3 years both coaches had the time to get the right mix of players and mould their team to their playing style . Each coach had their time To make it their own team
It is evident which coach is making a difference

Look we were smoked
Storm came to town and killed us
But 1 thing
After falling behind after a 3 try blitz 1st half, Manly kicked hard and finished the half well on top though down 18 - 10
Early 2nd half, Ben T gets tackled half way with Jerome Hughes, hanging on like a leach, Ben plays it "with his foot" and Manly get Penalised ???
Storm score on the back of it and Manly don't touch the ball the next 10 minutes and score blows out to 40 - 10
Again, the better team by a landslide was Storm, but that pi##ed me off big time. as against Storm you can't afford to give an inch and that was a mile imo
Pissed me off too but the storm did get penalised for the same thing, just didn't cost them

Storm defended with far more resilience when needed .... the score flattered us in the end with a late burst of tries, but when the heat was on, they tackled in numbers and with dominance and pretty much controlled the game .... hope Manly can lift in Perth as were like deers in headlights yesterday

I think we are a team that looks for turning points to allow themselves to yield somewhat. Its permissible in the standard set

Our hands were tied

Like when your on a diet and give yourself permission to scoff a donut 12 pack because traffic was nasty or someone at work didn't hold the lift
Mmmmmm ...... donuts

Over the telecast there were multiple tackles where the Brookie faithful were letting the ref know that the Storm were getting away with murder at the ruck. There was one set where the booing was consistent throughout 4 of the six tackles. Result - zero penalties. The storm are still up to their funny games and the NRL are still playing along.

Arms, pushing, feet, and knees in every play the ball.
We seem incapable of doing the same. But we should. Storm and the dogs are very good at it.

I agree somewhat but the game now is dominated by teams with mobility. And we don’t have it. Where would you attack if you see Takayuko, Jake and sipley? Straight at them with footwork until they tire. Go set for set with manly and you generally will win if you’re a half decent side. I’m fascinated what they do with Jake when his contract is up.

Slight difference in assignment. The dogs had few stars or long term deals. They could cull with impunity and cherry pick tradesman to compliment the Penrith guns they brought in. They are not only well coached but they are balanced. Manly have invested heavily in a few who are not good enough to drag the side along. Too many players who wouldn’t play 1st grade elsewhere. Building the strong roster we all want will require some tough decisions on fan favourites. DCE is merely the starting point.

Encourage him to play in the uk. Been a fantastic clubman and a great human but just too slow. Our new defensive coach.

storm is a better side. full stop.
Manly would need 56% possession to beat storm in a close match, but on sunday, storm had 53%.
The teams are very close in talent now, and you will find the team with 54% or above possession will win.
when possession is 51/49 or 52/48, its anyones game.

when manly won at brookie in the eraly rounds 2025, we won the possession handsomely, especially against canberra. The good teams like the storm and perhaps penrith , can win games with 47% ball.

Parramatta at home at bankwest and later commbank, has never had less than 50% ball since the stadium opened. last week it had 49/51 against bulldogs.1st time less than 50%.
