Massive turning point today

Maybe
Something along the lines
"Manly have no resilience" ?
Fact is, I found the call strange at the time and really changed the games momentum, but Manly folded like a deck of cards and any side who wants to be a serious show will overcome this type of call...regardless of Manly lacking backbone, the call definitely had an impact
Yeah, but our guys spent the offseason learning how to deal with chaos, so one bad ref call shouldn’t result in complete capitulation. Might be time for some more PowerPoint slides and some more breakout group chats.

Aloiai didn't play mate lol

I do agree with your sentiment though. I think this a long term side effect of the Trbojevic contracts which have hamstrung us (pun intended). We simply can't afford someone to partner Paseka effectively, and now we've lost him.
Also can't afford to keep Jake playing as a loose forward. To maintain his value to the team he should be moved into a tight middle role.

There were a couple of Storm tries in the second half when it appeared to me that Manly had stopped trying. Can't recall seeing that before.
To be fair, I think they were just cactus. Garricks missed tackle was fatigue. You could see leading up to that he was struggling. The Storm had a lot of ball today, their big fellas were full of energy and the backs took advantage. We've been the ones with all the possession in the previous games at home and we've done what the Storm did to us.
We couldn't handle the lack of possession. When we did have the ball we mostly did pretty well given our lack of players to punch thru the line.
2 games in 11 days incl one in Perth, is going to test us further.

Same as it ever was, maxta. If we have all the ball and everything goes our way, we look great. There's no doubting our attacking ability - even tonight we scored some cracking tries. But we simply do not know what to do without the ball. We just cannot defend, or cope with any form of resistance. When fight is required, we fold. And for some reason none of our rotating staff of coaches and players over the year have been able to fix it.

Defence under pressure does seem to be a chronic problem.

It was a bad call but I think we were already gone by then. For me the real killer was Garrick kicking out on the full. You cannot keep inviting the storm into your half and hope to get away with it
Oh yeah let’s blame Garrick kicking out on the full. Brbo’s missed tackle on Hughes that led to a try is ok tho? Apart from Olakau’atu our forwards got owned but hey let’s blame Garrick! He also missed a conversion so yeah let’s blame Garrick. Garrick had a few moments but he & Koula were enormous today. Your Garrick bagging is boring mate! Give it up zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Our forwards, with the exception of Guacca and Bully, were outmuscled. Melbourne looked a bigger pack, and yet their biggest bloke wasn't playing. When Tent and Al are not in our pack we get steamrolled.
Our backline, without Turbo and TT2, is physically small; fast, skillful but not as strong as the Melbourne backs, who were missing the imposing 'BrickWall'.
No team will seriously challenge Melbourne when they are motivated, as they were today, and near full strength. Last week was an un-Melbourne like performance. Today they were way too good. Lehi is a good player but we don't have a realistic chance against Melbourne without Turbo, and to a lesser extent, Tent. Sadly, these two miss more matches than they play.
We'll still finish 5th or 6th, and won't challenge for the premiership until we get at least one more enforcer to help Guacca out.

Just got back from the game. The biggest observation is their play the ball speed and line speed is so much quicker than ours it’s ridiculous.
Over the telecast there were multiple tackles where the Brookie faithful were letting the ref know that the Storm were getting away with murder at the ruck. There was one set where the booing was consistent throughout 4 of the six tackles. Result - zero penalties. The storm are still up to their funny games and the NRL are still playing along.

Arms, pushing, feet, and knees in every play the ball.

I don't think I did bag Garrick. As far as I can remember I don't think I ever have, I'm usually a supporter of his even when others aren't. I merely stated a fact that the turning point of the game was him kicking out on the full which increased the pressure on us leading to more points against us and increased fatigue. He probably only made two mistakes all game ( the kick out on the full and the poor tackle attempt from the scrum which lead to a try) other than that I thought he had a decent game and is looking like a much better centre nowadays. Now can you please go and unknot your knickers

It’s incredulous how often it happens at this level. Professional…. Pffft!

Some more Beaver and Cliffy instilling the history and Manly DNA, followed by more episodes of The Manly Way…

This comment really shows that you have ever played sport at any level. You know what, when you play sport, at whatever level, you occasionally make mistakes or things don't go as planned. You do understand that that the ball is egg shaped, and they use a different one each week.

*And while I used 'ever' incorrectly, please note that was done on purpose.

Of course, all players make mistakes from grass roots to pro level. It wasn’t a comment about Garrick’s poor kick today as much as a comment about how surprisingly often kick offs out on the full happen in the game at this level. I personally find it shocking.

I haven't seen the game, but conceding 48 points.
How can our defence be so bad? And at home.

Have a look at the team currently coming first, the dogs. They were the worst team defensively 3 years ago
Their coach has got them into a defensive wall working for each other.

What has Spoony done to our defence? NOTHING

Storm dominated the middle, made way more post contact meters and bent the manly defensive line, they won the ruck and the game with more enthusiasm running the ball and more intensity with their defensive efforts.

Replacing Tent is not easy with the current squad, Sipley with his running game was worth a shot but he disappointed with his ball running.

The coaches have a job in front of them working out how to get the best out of a struggling bunch of forwards to complement Haumole and Bully.

They looked far from being a premiership contender that the hierarchy and players claim they are when tested by Melbourne.
