Massive importance in "other" games

The old saying that you worry about winning footy games and the results will take care of themselves from there is 100% true.
But in 2024 and the bye this weekend, in such a tight season with so many possible outcomes for both "Top 4" and "Top 8"
I can't recall a season coming to closing stages with such a tight struggle for positions and personally, very excited 1 of the teams in there is Manly.
So rather than just other games being played, almost every game has a domino effect on Manly, so there is far more interest than just another game.
The rules don't change....if Manly keep winning we end up in a great position, but there is far more interest personally in regards to other match results and where the teams land come finals time, in such a cluttered race to the finish line.

It would have been better for Manly if teams like Broncos Eels and Souths had kept winning, because a) we don't have to play them again and b) they would still keep fighting tooth and nail against our rivals for top 8/top 4. As it stands those teams will probably drop off and provide only relatively low intensity opposition for our top 8 rivals.

Whereas our games v Raiders, Dogs and Sharks will probably all have semi-final type intensity.

It's a tough comp for sure.

Just win and let the rest take care of itself. I do know what you are saying tho @maxta and it does make it interesting on the bye round.

@SeaEagleRock8 I have a bet with a bronc mate every year for a case of beer for the higher finishing team, so I want them to lose out after buying cartons the last two years haha.

At least he probably just wants xxxx. I haven't been to aust in awhile, but I'm assuming it's like $9.99 a carton (of 30)?

I hope we can provide semi-final intensity in those games. We just did not turn up against Easts in the first 20 minutes. Cannot afford that again.

Ha, not likely that crap is still prob north of $50 for a 30pack. That said we always go an IPA case.

Speaking of cost of booze, just got back from Scotland and booze is about the only cheap thing there! £7 for a 6 pack of Guinness! Pay bloody $30 here!

Price of a Schooner sized drink in a boutique pub in Brissy not far from where I live, $14.50 . I kid you not.

Ridiculous isn’t it. I live in Bris so know all too well mate. I was sinking pints at the Dunvegan in St Andrews for £5.50. And that’s a golf tourist hot spot. My brothers father in law is a Scot and he still complains beer is too expensive there! Buying cans at a supermarket there is only a shade over £1 a pint!

If we can win the next 5 games then we're not good enough to be up there fighting for a title. Simples. Ball is in our own court.
Agree with that Mick, more saying "order" of where we finish, along with others is more interesting than most years and adds more importance to results aside from Manlys game ...we have no excuses and don't think will need any

Alcohol is taxed ridiculously here. I bought duty free whisky in Japan a few years ago and it was about a third of the price you'd pay in Australia

Beer has nigh on doubled in price over here in the last 5 years. If you go to a pub it's about £5 a pint wherever you go, 4-5 years ago that would have been less than 3 quid. Slabs at the supermarket are still ridiculously cheap by comparison. I must admit to being shocked at the price of booze when I was in Aus.

Still £2 pints in Wetherspoons, the one near Baker Street station is a good atmosphere..
