A powerful player manager with links to Sydney Roosters star Latrell Mitchell has been suspended by the NRL on Friday afternoon over a bankruptcy claim.

The 16 clubs have been notified in an email from Agent Accreditation Operations Manager Paul Massey not to deal with Mario Tartak, the boss of Crown Sports Management.

Kangaroos, Origin and Rabbitohs star Damien Cook is among his clients.

He also manages Manly Sea Eagles hooker Manase Fainu.

The suspension follows bankruptcy proceedings by American Express in the Federal Court.

Tartak is allegedly the agent who has spoken to the Canterbury Bulldogs chairman George Coorey on behalf of Roosters star Mitchell about the possibility of him joining the Bulldogs.

This is despite the fact Mitchell is managed by another agent, Wayde Rushton.

Just curious whether player managers or agents receive a set or standard fee for negotiating or finalizing N R L contracts or whether it is just subject to flexible or mutually agreeable arrangements between the individual player and his manager .

It is all handled "in house" (but outside the NRL, believe!). Appears to be no one having any "clout" being in charge.

I find it bizarre that in every business that deals with finance you need to be licensed to give financial advice.

Yet these men who manage sportsmen and women can negotiate multi million dollar contracts with zero accreditation and oversight @
I don’t understand why more players don’t just negotiate their own contracts.

Surely ... in Australia .... a person would have the right to have whoever he wished represent him .. by what draconian dictatorial power do the NRL have to say otherwise ..... peope have rights ... and that includes the right to make dumb decisions .... and employ numbnuts ....

Smacks of restraint of trade to me .... and gives Toddy another layer of power to corrupt ......

For anyone holding themselves out as representing your interests and providing specialist advice in matters potentially involving a lot of your money - lawyers, financial advisors, banks, player agents... it is absolutely appropriate that they have to abide by certain professional standards including competence and especially including ethical behaviour.
The problems with player agents to date have not been due to agents being registered, rather the problems have been due to no effective assessment oversight or disciplining of those registered agents. It has been a free-for-all meal ticket for a bunch of shonky cowboys.

Hardly restraint of trade, rather professional advice from a licenced advisor

As this man is now allegedly bankrupt his financial knowledge has to be questioned

I suppose even with player agents you still have to have standards to be adhered to, however there are some bottom feeders amongst these, who will try anything unscrupulously for a buck.

Agree whole heartedly ..... but those professional standards and/or qualifications are outlined and administered by legal government agencies or professional Industry Associations ..... with avenues of recourse and appeal

.... And certainly not by the sole arbitor GreenTurd ...... it is just another area of real corruption in the NRL .... rumours that certain Agents get a free pass ... because of supposed damaging information they possess about clubs and current officials are rife

..Of the top of your head ... how many of the player agents were sanctioned or disbarred after the Melb Storm salary cap 2 contract fiasco .... or the bulldogs salary cap rort ...... or the systematic institutional rorting of the Parra Eels ...... and if none .... the big question is why not ????

... and I stand by my other point .... It is a persons right to be represented by whoever they want ..... even if it is a stupid decision .... it is not a nanny state .... caveat emptor ....or more apt .. whatever the latin is for choose wisely ..
