Not sure about it being a meaningless game, to all the thousands going to Brookie on Friday night they'll be wanting a big win to finish the season off.
I don’t mean meaningless in that way , but it’s not important in the scheme of things as to getting into the 8 and I’d hate to see him injured again in a fake that doesn’t really count for much.

For a player who has missed all season it's probably a psychological boost to get back on the field, as well as a reward for working so hard on his rehab.
Means he can go into the off-season knowing he's ready.
(And no way would he be picked if his injury wasn't fully recovered, Manly aren't that dumb) (totally different scenario to Haumole and his shoulder)

On the flip side I'd also like to see Simione or Zaidas get a run. So I'm happy either way.

Bottom line, this is not a trial, so we want to win!

I don't want Paseka to play, but I imagine he'd have one eye on representing Tonga again, and thus will want to play.

Unfortunately for Tonga, they'll certainly miss Haumole, and possibly Koula too. Koula might return from injury right as the internationals begin, however.

We have quite a few Tongans who will likely play for them, either this year, or in the future.

Lehi Hopoate
Haumole Olakau'atu
Tolu Koula
Taniela Paseka
Siosiua Taukeiaho
Onitoni & Ashton Large
Simione Laiafi (?)

Quite a large contingent. Pun not intended.

I wouldn't be playing Paseka this weekend. We made a mistake bringing Big O back too early and you would think we learnt something from that. There are good young players who have out their hands up with good consistent form and they deserve to be rewarded. Wake up Manly.
Imagine he’s injured again and misses the opening for 2026, just for an almost nothing game.

Reminds of season 1979 where in the final round game at Brookie the Manly team rolled the Bulldogs (Berries?) who despite the loss somehow hung onto 5th place. All this showed just how good Manly was as the Dogs went on to reach the grand final.

After the Brookie game Tom Mooney said on tv "No one would have touched us if we'd made the finals'". And he was right.

But Manly's team through 1979 was full of injuries and worn out players after the monumental play offs run in 1978 and then the kangaroos tour.

This 2025 team from Manly though dropped so many winnable games they don't to my mind have any where near the excuses the 1979 team had for missing the finals.
