Manly v Roosters Rd 9 (pre game discussion)

I’m heading Bush for a few days, no internet ( unless I drive back into town and bugger that) so thought I’d start the thread before I go “ dark” from about midday.

I won’t even get to see the team posted ( will he or won’t he get picked).

But sadly I’ll have to leave the bush on Friday so only 3 or 4 days of peace and quiet.

And much to the delight of my darling wife NO FISHING ( I mean WTF you go away and can’t fish!!!).

I’ve however snuck a red claw net in ( she doesn’t know that yet).

Anyway this isn’t about me it’s all about the Roosters on Sunday who are red hot favourites ( and should be).

However we have a great record v the Rorters so I’m not sure it will be the whitewash everyone thinks it will be.

I guess the big question is will Barrett finally throw the balls in the air and choose some of the young guns OR will he go down the conservative ( but almost guaranteed match losing) approach of Api to 5/8 and Brown to Hooker, that I don’t know.

Anyway, let’s get a teeny bit of positivity back into this joint , even if it’s just a pipe dream!!

In all fairness, this Roosters pack have been fairly ordinary and teams are taking them on here and winning.
Maybe Manly can hang in and go close here.
The pack is not getting Cronk time and he has been punished a few times as a result...but the way Manly stop moving up, have been making average halves look like world beaters....need to be on, but will they??

It’s a tall order but I take solace from the fact we are the highest betting odds of the weekend, so no one, including our opposition will expect anything other than the white flag being put up.

There’s a lot of improvement needed , but let’s face it the only way is up OR they just trot out and get smashed every week.

I just can’t make myself believe that 17 professional footballers would do that week in week out, surely they would at least have a go?

JACKSON Hastings is firming for an astonishing recall to Manly’s first grade side less than a fortnight after he was banished to reserve grade for the season by coach Trent Barrett.
The Sea Eagles are in desperation mode after a shocking last month, with a devastating ACL injury to rookie five-eighth Lachlan Croker compounding the club’s woes.

It leaves Barrett bereft of options to partner Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves and Sea Eagles CEO Lyall Gorman told NRL.com the skipper could put his problems with Hastings to the side for the benefit of his team.

I actually think that a side with Winterstein replacing Gosiewski and Hastings replacing Croker is stronger than the ones we've had the past few weeks...if only we get it. Winterstein is a better defender, and runs decent lines even if he doesn't get hands on the ball very often. On Hastings - I just watched the first half of the Blacktown game from last week, and he creates stuff...plenty of stuff. Runs wide, searching for openings. Controls the game pretty well, too. Guessing at the same bench as last week, although Sipley could easily replace Paseka one of these weeks - similar ability and offering, maybe a bit older and more solid. We'll get it together for a full game, one of these weeks. The effort is there, we just lack the belief at the moment, which is bringing us down by 10% every game.
