Manly v Penrith Round 20, 2018 - Pre Game

Brad has a very impressive beard. I know lots of young blokes grow beards these days, but since Wolfie left...we haven't really been able to say we have a player with a quality beard.

I think it takes a lot of guts for a ranga to attempt a beard, and only a few can pull it off. There have been a couple of great ranga beards in footy, but this one is ours and I think we should be very proud of it.

Great work, Brad!! Keep it up brother!

I honestly couldn't believe my ears on Sunday when Gould was talking him up during the game.

I couldn't figure out if he was taking the mick or if he was actually series.

Well...if Gus and Trent like him, he must be good. Those Penrith boys know a good player when they see one!

Anyone that thinks Brad Parker isn't going to be a valuable member of the team this week should book themselves in for a mental health assessment by Thursday, because they are obviously struggling.

Jokes peeps. Jokes!!

Before everyones*ts their pants, maybe wait until the final 17 is announced.

Never ceases to amaze me the cliff jumping that goes on around here when the squad is announced.

If I were coach, I'd name Parker too. Have the opposition focus their game plan on targetting the bloke then drop him out 60 mins before kick off.

But please....continue the cliff diving @:)

So who do you plan to replace him with? Matt slow mo Wright? He and Suli are maybe the 2 slowest backliners in the league.

If you are reading this Brad ..... keep going son ...... you have (for the little it is worth) my respect and admiration for being a first grade player for the glorious Sea Eagles. ... With more options available you may not get a run .... but every time you have, you have had a dig ...

The personal disrespect and insulting comments made by several people in this thread is way over the top, unnecessary and largely unwarranted.

They tend to miss the 4 good things you do ... and focus on an error ...

But as I have said before .... when they have forgotten what the sausage rolls taste like .... you will be telling your kids ... you ran on to Brookie wearing the maroon and white ..... Good onya son. .. well done!

Matt Wright. Experienced, reliable and tends not to miss tackles.

Not much point having Josh Addo-Carr in your team if the opposition is punching holes in you like Swiss cheese.

Yeah, I agree. When they're in a Manly jumper you back them. If they leave, they're fair game!

Hope you have a blinder on the weekend, Bradley!!

Barrett as usual has the back line ass about. He has Parker on the wing, yet I suspect he would be good as a bench player to cover backs and forwards. He has Tom Wright as a bench player more often than not, yet he has speed and evasiveness to burn and would learn more about what is required in first grade in the centre or wing. He has our best centre at 5/8 yet I look at Kelly and see 5/8 written all over him but for a kicking game, which is an unknown at this stage. Suli is a big lump of a player, probably overweight at this stage, but would be best at this stage on the wing, given his passing game is at this stage poor. But that's just an opinion. I would go for

Tom T
Taufua
T. Wright
Walker
Suli ( makes a lot of ground in attack and despite his poor defensive effort last week is usually fairly reliable)
Kelly
DCE

with Parker on the bench.

The team was that bad a/roosters, the coach said it was like watching boys play men.
......problem coaching and leadership pure and simple.
When we kept leaking tries through TomW ,Kelly Parker
.....problem ? coaching.
Eventually the team lost all cohesion and composure.
.......problem ? leadership.
So when we win this week with basically the same team what's changed ?
Walkz.
How can one player make that much difference ? For me simple he has that indomitable will to win if you lot on here can't see it I know his team mates can and I'm pretty sure the coaches do as well.
When he plays the team wins when he doesn't they lose ..while playing at 5/8 mind you
As for centre v 5/8 ? Dce would go all day to Turbo bypass Walkz at least at 5/8 he gets his hands on the ball.

Give Funa a go ffs Barrett. Parker and Suli out. Walker to center Funa to wing. Throw Dogkinson back into 6. Tom Wright to bench.

Woodsie you are right though I still think Parker's role will be more in the forwards than backs. He's 6'4" and at this stage 90kgs, though I suspect he'll get bigger. Could make a decent rangy back rower and he's relatively quick, good defence (despite the mind explosion in the last game), and has a bit of aggression in his play

I do understand the frustration and targeting of Parker. However, I believe Parker is worth having in the team and could be a valuable part of the team in the longer term. I can't say I have seen anything yet to suggest he will be a superstar... but, I have seen a young kid with heart and persistence while others around him are falling apart. Yes, there have been some errors, but in that team (and including more experienced and talented players) who hasn't made a truckload of errors this season.

I like that this kid tackles hard and doesn't drop his head. Defence and attitude. Remember, great Manly teams have always contained less-fancied but important team players... guys who did the less glamorous background work, who just got a basic job done consistently and reliably. Parker reminds me of those types. I believe if he was surrounded by decent player with the team cohesive and playing as a team, we would see the real value of a player like Parker.

He strikes me as a reliable piece in a larger jigsaw, and it's hard to see his worth at the moment because there are so many issues all over the park. We are wanting/expecting more of him to help compensate for many of the gaps and issues elsewhere... that is not the type of player I see Parker as.

.... I think that may be an old weight that hasn't been updated ... he certainly looks a bit more solid than when he debuted ....

.. Bear, I honestly don't know what his future holds ... he may end up one of those players that is always the 2nd or 3rd best at the club in any given position ... it is relevant to remember he is still only 21 .. with a career limiting injury record ...

.. either way ... my point was he is a good local kid trying to make his way in the hardest football comp in the world ... doesn't shirk it or drop his lollies ...

..and he certainly doesn't deserve to be disrespected .....

WE'll win this.......because.....well why not.

The week is funner with blind optimism!!!
