Match Stats

The Part that gave me the s..ts was how Blocker Voss carried on about the forward pass, yes it was forward but they say barely anything when the favoured teams do it, bias overload and thanks Jethro for the photos and the other stats as well, you are a legend brother
Thought the pass was flat, ref and touchie were in line with the pass thrown. Blocker, every now and then has a rant just wish he wouldn't raise his voice to make it seem he's right.

What is noted statistically in recent weeks is Manly's defense has improved. Not great but much better. I usually think under 20 missed tackles in a game is top class. Under 30 is good, under 40 requires attention and 40 plus is poor. Of course much depends on the team one is defending against, but Manly was fairly consistently above 30 and at times in the 40s for a while there. Recent weeks have been in the 20-30 bracket which is encouraging. Of course Newcastle were hardly much threat in attack, but it may suggest Seibs is getting the defense tightened.

Yes a noticeable improvement. We are currently 6th best team defensively (tries conceded). Whilst still missing a lot of tackles, our systems as a whole, and scramble for one another, have improved dramatically.

Very true my friend and me and my mate spoke about this today, how many like that or worse than that are there in games and never get called and how many times has it happened against us

We were good, the Knights were terrible.

My only concern from the game was the way that Will Pryce and Crossland made meters up the middle easily between our forwards. That MUST improve this week otherwise Brimson, Kini and Campbell will tear us apart.

Really good completion rates set the side up to play a top level of footy , used some very effective decoy plays [ especially with Haumole , think that he hardly had or needed a run in the first 15 min or so ] ] Brown just keeps on powering on Defence held up pretty well
Turbo looked like he was getting back into his element again which had to be a major plus . Saab again a serious weapon if given the right opportunity
Wonder how Simpkin "s injury is , going to need a decent 9 role from someone at 9 next week .
Home crowds have seen some mainly excellent footy form from the side this season , really hope that it can continue but need some crucial good efforts and outcomes in away games as well .
Here"s hoping

With Jake and possibly Croker coming back in, this should negate any defensive frailties we may have defending our middle.

I was ok with it. Saab stayed in front of the ball the whole time suggesting momentum, ref was right in line to rule back out of hands. The camera angle was a shocker to make a decision. Definitely not a blatant forward pass but looked bad with the angle. Voss wouldn't have said a word if it was Penrith other than going on about how good To'o is

I re-watched the game today and this time with fox commentary (voss, blocker, etc) whereas last night it was Gus, Johns.....

Ch 9 seemed as if it were mates watching it at home.

1 - Good jump by turbo.
2 - You know they swans were interested in him?
1 - Were they?
2 - Yeah...

1 - Anyway, ruben converts, 100-0 Manly.

Fox seem to spend way too much time trying to be 'entertaining' but also trying to highlight any possible mistakes that no one cares about or moves on from.

1 - That was forward!!!
2 - certainly was
1- yeah it was. don't want to harp on it
2 - why not we'll do it any way.

2 mins later.....
1 - was that a shoulder charge?
2 - dunno lets look at it again
1 - and again
2 - and...again...

1 min later...
1 - did Saab ground that?
2 - dunno, but lets look at 5 replays and go on and on about it.

fmd you two moronasaurasus.....you're supposed to like the game not go on about every tiny thing, thinking that a missed call is entertaining news. Even when you're wrong you go on as it's a wink wink they let it go nudge nudge.

Irritating.

Manly forward Haumole Olakau'atu can avoid a two-game suspension for a shoulder charge if he takes an early guilty plea following his side's 44-6 win over the Knights.

Olakau'atu was hit with a Grade One charge for the hit on Mat Croker in the 33rd minute and will pay a $3000 fine if he pleads guilty. The forward will spend two games on the sidelines if he fights the charge and loses. He has until 12pm on Tuesday to enter a plea.

Newcastle's Jackson Hastings was also charged after the match, with the halfback facing an $1800 fine for a Grade 1 Dangerous Contact charge for a tackle on Reuben Garrick in the second half. Hastings also has until 12pm Tuesday to enter a plea.

I've long been intrigued by these fines:
1. Do the players actually pay them? If so, how? Do they come out of the player's salary? How long do they have to pay the fines? Are they calculated and collected at the end of the season? Are they tax deductible? Is it legal for a non-government organisation to impose fines? Do players take out insurance to cover against such fines?
2. Do the clubs pay them?
3. Where does this money end up? Is it recorded in the NRL balance sheet? Does the NRL budget for such fines each year?
4. What other professions impose fines on their employees?
5. Where is the system explained? It's a subject more interesting than the fluff Annusly spouts each Monday. Why hasn't a journalist done a story on this?

I can't answer all your questions, but as of 2017:

'All fines must be paid by the player and the revenue generated by the payment of fines will be reinvested in player wellbeing and education related initiatives.'

Not that it makes it any clearer..

Blocker and Vossey both together on game days, is to much for anyone to bare.

On another re-watch.
I think what impressed me the most was our grind.

Score a try, get back into the grind for numerous sets, score again, repeat.

We weren't trying to score off every play, like we sometimes do.

Be interesting to see how we approach things once DCE is back.

I've started watching more Ch 9 games on Friday and Sunday because I can't stomach Voss... well pretty much all Fox commentators... and I have noticed a distinct difference in how that handle these situations. It has to be a conscious thing and I'm assuming it's in direct opposition to Voss and all the BS he creates.

Ch 9 also don't do replay after replay, trying to find the controversy. They play the tape, make a comment and then move on.

I really like the approach, I hope Fox take note.

Does anyone recall a time when our entire back 5 scored tries?

Brooks was the only back not to score a try. If he didn't get run down a metre short then our entire backline would've scored. TT2 was the only back that didn't have a try assist.

8 tries, 7 try scorers and 6 try assistants. Great to see the boys sharing it around and threatening from all areas.

this was my first game at Brookie( i'll never call it anything else) for a few years & i'm glad i picked this game to attend.
i came down with my daughter & her husband, nice bloke although he has a slight mental issue - he's a knights supporter!
he hadn't been to Brookie before and i hadn't been there since the new stand had been built, we spent the end of the reggies walking around while i explained how it used to look when i came down with my parents in the 80's through until now.
watching the golden eagles walk around was certainly a highlight, and then they said over the p.a. that turbo & cliffy would lead the team out of the tunnel together to an acoustic version of 'simply the best', that had me dumbfounded......
until old mate started singing, he was brilliant,
goosebumps on my skin brilliant.
great choice.
with the game being so one sided the atmosphere never really built up, it was surprising quiet a lot of the time but with tries scored regularly there was plenty to cheer about throughout the game.
half time & dj cyril.....
who pulled the plug early on?
who turned the power back on? and why?
who thought a dj at the footy was the way to go?
maybe im getting too old but id rather watch some under 7's kids running around that listen to doof doof music at half time, or bring back on old mate that sang simply the best to do a few more numbers.
2nd half was more of the same, the one major difference was that as we were in the 'arko' stand we got to see the tries scored infront of us instead of on the big screen.
all in all great afternoon, well for two of the three of us at least.
now to prepare for next week when im back to watch us take on the titans.

Yes, it was surprisingly quiet compared to other games but there wasn't a lot of cheering for Manly because it wasn't needed. As you said, there was already plenty to cheer about each time they scored!

I'm probably showing my age but also thought the doof doof music seemed inappropriate for a Sunday afternoon game.

Nonetheless it was a great afternoon at Brookie and hopefully next Sunday will be similar.

What an awesome win on a lovely Sunday afternoon at a packed out Brookie. The sun was shining and it was wonderful to see all the Golden Eagles doing their lap. Amazed we had yet another sell-out!

It's been some time since we've seen a scoring blitz like that, along with several highlights:
Turbo has his mojo back...and about time. Hopefully it lasts!
Humphreys' debut couldn't have been better. A shame it wasn't a few weeks ago when we needed him.
BFB lead the way with his runs and defence.
Rarely is a winger a MOM but I had to give mine to Hoppa. The kid has so much talent and hope he stays at Manly for many years.

Looking forward to another awesome afternoon next Sunday!
