Who would've thought in the off-season that Talau and Hopoate would become a killer left edge combo...

We have some fantastic backline depth at the moment. Just need some forwards. We got very lucky with Talau, Hoppa, possibly Faulalo and that's on top of the starting line-up. Paulo and Parker for a prop going into next season?

Hoppa is a freak. He would be 80kgs wringing wet but his carries were so strong. He has everything but size, but the size will come given his genetics. Once in a generation talent he will be the best hoppa by a fair margin and that includes his old man.

He’s the one Hoppa i hope the club will be able to keep long term. He’s been so impressive for how young he is. U wouldn’t know he’s 19 in his 7th game.

Team Victory Song:

We are the Manly boys,
We had a win today,
We are the boys you know of
We showed them how to play,
No matter where we’ll be
Maroon and White you'll see,
Oh aren’t we a wonderful credit
To our locality,
So cheer boys cheer,
We are together,
Every now and then we have a win…..have a win
We will play them all around
At our home or any ground,
If they’ll always play a fair and honest game
So it’s GUZZLE GUZZLE GUZZLE
As we pour it down our muzzle,
And sing out the order loud and clear, 'MORE BEER',
And we will drink all night
Until we are very tired
In the shade of the Manly Leagues Club.

Finally, we had our 1st real kick arse performance of the season, just 6 shy off 50. With troops coming back for the GC game we can't slack off now.
Can’t wait for that game. I do love my speed men, and the Titans back four (counting Kini), and our back three, holy shiit. A great segway into the Olympics.

ps. If anyone else loves the speed merchants check out the doco on Netflix called "Sprint".
No spoiler, but the front on replay shot of Saabs running style is very much like one of the Jamaicans’.

With 9 players out I thought we might be a bit disjointed at times, but everything looked quite smooth.

I'll enjoy watching the game again.

Great move by coach Seibold. Put Tom in the centres so he wont have a blinder and get picked for Origin....then slot him back into fullback so he can have a blinder!
Do it every year coach!!!

Thanks for that post above @Jethro - some great pics there. 🙂

Also - Gus said in reference to Brooks picking up the ball and running when the knights had no dummy half.....

That if Brooks dived on the ball - penalty knights, but
Brooks scooped it up and ran with it - play on.

Anyone know why?

It's the rule.

It's the rule.

Yeeees. I got that, I thought there may be more to it than that though.

But if not...it is what it is then.

cheers!!

edit: Best I could find...

Player marking dives on the ball 4. If the player marking the tackled player at the play-the-ball dives behind the tackled player in order to drop on the ball as it is heeled, they are guilty of a voluntary tackle and should be penalised.

If there is no acting half back it is permissible for a player to dive behind the tackled player and drop on the ball after it has been heeled provided that, unless tackled, they immediately regain his feet.

Even though Turbo will most likely never be the same athletically, yesterday's game was a great reminder of just how formidable his mind is - his playmaking, game managing, leadership, and organisational skills are absolutely first class. Without doubt, he should be wearing the 1 on his back. If DCE can let go of some control, and focus on his very important kicking game, chiming in when opportunities present themselves (like he does in SOO), I think our attack may actually benefit greatly.

Also, given Lehi's rapid rise, and the impressive form of all our outside backs, when fully fit (if ever), I would even consider moving Talau one further in again to left edge second row. He is similar in size and mobility to Lawton, who is just playing so well there, and seems to love the tough stuff. Solves two problems in one move.

Big game next week. No one knows Des better than us, and you can bet there will be one almighty ambush awaiting the boys. For now though, well done to Seibs, the coaching staff, and all the players. A lot of people are saying that the Knights were missing 3 outside backs. I haven't heard anyone even mention the the 6-8 players missing from our starting 17. Great game Manly.

The Part that gave me the s..ts was how Blocker Voss carried on about the forward pass, yes it was forward but they say barely anything when the favoured teams do it, bias overload and thanks Jethro for the photos and the other stats as well, you are a legend brother

DCE will have Guaca running at Campbell for the 80 and testing him, I don’t think it will e a close game, hopefully Tent is ready to go for the next two games..
