Game Day: Manly v Eels [Round 1, 2017]

Trent has got the forward pack WRONG.
He is sending our most potentially damaging runner to the slaughter in Tapau.
Lawrence can have a handbrake and sironen and winterstein are edge runners.
Nate myles must start front row and tapau back row.
He needs to be running on the edges slaughtering the fringes minimising the oppositions effectiveness from the halves and then on the odd occasion
Imagine tapau running block plays dragging in defenders for turbo out the back and picking up walker.
Cmon trent use your brain

08. Brenton Lawrence
09. Jackson Hastings (kicker)
10. Addin Fanua-Blake
11. Marty Taupau
12. Curtis Sironen
13. Jake Trbojevic

14. Cameron Cullen (go on in the middle third)
15. Nate Myles
16. Lloyd Perrett
17. Shaun Lane

Would have been my pick

Don't have to imagine Kapow playing 2nd row, I watched him there for 10 games last year and saw him make one of the fabled damaging runs ... and generally being less effective in defence because of poor lateral movement. He was unable to hit hard because he was just able to get his hands to a runner, when he was moved to front row he kicked arse and made many damaging runs.

He is a front rower.

Agree with Myles starting, he can absorb the early hit-ups, and Lawrence's best games for us have been off the bench when he comes on fired up from watching for 20 mins.

Plenty of posters last year hanging Barrett for playing Taupau in the backrow for long minutes and therefore reducing his effectiveness, this year he listens and gets hammered.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

With Lussick injured this is a good move - need someone with experience and size to run hard early.

With the weather predicted to be very heavy rain this weekend, I think a forward grind it out battle favours parra but don't count us out for the win.

See this game being very much like the roosters trial game, tough up the middle grind it out game. Early points for us is crucial, if we go down a few tries early don't see us fighting back to win.

Whoever wins this , will win it late.

Head says parra by 8
Heart says us by 4

That's a much stronger side

get a grip on yourself Harry.
I suppose, just been getting excited, should've expected some disappointments as my expectations of the side are bound to be different from other's expectations

Made it seem as if I'm more angry than I really am. Quite happy with the side tbh. Just some question marks for me, three props on the bench is one of them. Unless Perrett plays second row.

Very happy to see Kelly and Perrett get a run. I think this is a sensible side to start the season. Whilst Hasting would be in my full strength side, I totally expected him to miss out given his interrupted pre-season; however, I expect we will see him by about round 4/5. I think Brown will have to fire from the bench, or will lose his spot pretty quickly.

Once you add Darcy and Hastings to the squad it starts to look like a genuine finals footy team. I also think Uate will need to be on point as I fully expect Parker to be putting pressure on our backline by mid season.

I actually like Myles coming off the bench. I think he should be rotated with Jake as well as the front row. Jake is our best defender, but I think he is more effective when he gets a rest rather than trying to punch out 80 mins per game. Give Jake a 10min rest and put Myles in his spot as he is our next best defensive forward who can keep the middle tight. Myles can also rotate with Marty/BJ at prop (it's all middle field anyway).

I think we must have either Jake or Myles on the field at any given time to keep our defence in order, so I like Myles starting from the bench.

Given Darcy is out injured, I am more than happy to see Marty in the front row. The guy is a gun and will again be our top metre eater no matter where he plays.

Side is named, nervous anticipation runs through the veins, and dreams of a flogging for the Eels wander across the brain ...... all that is left now for you guys is to join the tipping comp and put your money where your mouth is.

Come on !!!! fire up and get involved.

Parra don't have a massive starting pack. Mannah is a plonker, Matagi is more nuggety than a bopper, Ma'u and Scott aren't huge. Moeroa is the only unit and he's a bit of a soft cock.

So Marty should be able to hold his own.
