I like how Seibold gives younger players a shot, Hoppa I understand that they are giving him a shot to grow into the one jumper.
I like young Hoppa, but I think, playing him on the wing would of been preferable, Tom started there, I raise that because Tolu played his best games at one, he was never really given the opportunity to cement his shot, fair enough Tom was always going back there, but down goes Tom and things could be different, Speed out the back is great, Hoppas no slouch, Tolu needs that space and just gives us a more physical presence. That also allows Talau to move in and use his physical presence, Lehi could and can develop from the edge, when he physically fills out and with his skill set, he can be considered anywhere in the backline.
The problem I see is the seasoned players not performing well enough and they don’t have the upside they once could offer, Tevega, Brown, Sipley, and Jake T are off the pace and need a wake up call in my opinion, getting a jumper based on past performances only goes so far.
This is definitely a problem and I agree there is no upside and the last part relates to what I inferred re Froggy coming back last year, when Simpkins was actually starting to look good, just like sticking with the players you highlighted, if form dictates, even if it means relegating a senior player, no different to a positional change to strengthen the side, you can’t let players dictate where they play, ie Rubes, even Turbo to a degree, he wanted to remain at FB, tough gig being a coach.
I do agree the Garrick experiment seen its used by date last season, that Howarth miss was terrible.
I don’t how or why Seibs persisted, it wasn’t Garricks only shocker, was Garrick promised the position, if that’s true, all my days, the coach is supposed to do what’s best for the team, not the individual, I just don’t think he has the stomach to go against the senior playing group or admit that his choices may not be the best option, he needs to grow some and tell certain players there not performing, if that falls on deaf ears, relagate them, when was the last time Seibs made a hard call, let’s not use Sipps or Duck, anyway he needs to make some tough decisions, can’t keep picking and sticking.
