As long as it isn't Erectile Problems Stadium, Viagra Oval or something of the like, I will be happy.

Or premature stadium

I don't like the idea of changing the name. It needs to remain Brookvale/brookie oval for generations to come. As stated this has been the name since 1947...its part of our history and is an icon of the northern beaches.

Like others have said, we aren't the only ones not to have a sponsor for the ground name, such as parramatta stadium, leichhardt oval, belmore oval, SCG, SFS, redfern oval.......

What next ?? Will we be having stands such as fulton/menzies/jane try  changed to the names of the highest paying sponsors? I say leave the Brookie name alone!

Wouldn't really bother me - it will always be Brooky....

I see any \"branding\" along the same line as roadside bill boards or sponsorship of all manner of things from the Opera to the local surf club or school fete.

This type of sponsorship is to raise \"brand awareness\" not specifically a \"call to action\" to buy now...typically the company is looking to become \"household names\"/high profile/good guys etc so when someone is buying they will \"lean\" towards someone they know and maybe trust (or subconsciously prefer them rather than an unknown brand.)

They are all trying to reach the marketeers version of Nirvana which is to turn their brand in to a \"Love mark\" - no not a nasty hickey...see here for more http://www.lovemarks.com/

I think our senior exec have a good enough of a handle on the importance of our \"brand\" to align us with a poor fit sponsor but are most certainly savvy enough to realise there is a quid to be made from naming rights so would be remiss not to explore the possibilities….?

Yes, but they want to get in bed with betting. The only 'love mark' left after that is one hell of a financial wet-patch!

I don't agree I think "Come to Viagra oval this Friday night and watch manly stick it to the eels" has quite a ring to it.

Feeling down??? Come to Viagra oval and watch manly take on the Panthers, it’s certain to give you a lift.

Come to Viagra oval and watch Manly’s hard men take on the storm.

I really like this idea.

EXCITED Manly fans yesterday backed moves by the club to re-name Brookvale Oval.

The Sea Eagles are currently negotiating with several companies in their search for a major sponsor.

Club chief executive officer Grant Mayer is keen to explore all avenues of support as the Sea Eagles aim to solidify their financial books.

It is understood Brookvale Oval, home to the Sea Eagles since they entered the league in 1947, could be sponsored for up to $300,00 per year.

Mr Mayer said re-naming Brookvale Oval was a commercial decision to be only applied during NRL events.

“We are looking at every opportunity,” he said yesterday in between meetings with potential sponsors.

“It’s not just about naming rights sponsor, it’s about commercialising the club without losing our identity.

“It’s more expensive now to run a football club.”

And it appears Mr Mayer has the fans on side.

“It’s a break from tradition but I don’t see a massive problem with that,” Freshwater’s Tony Young said.

“Every other team is doing the same, it’s a sign of the times.”

Frenchs Forest’s Bryan Page also welcomed changing the ground’s name.

“You can’t ignore history but in saying that you can’t live in the past,” the 68-year-old said. “I would be happy with a new name, it would liven the place up.”

Mr Mayer said Brookvale would still be retained within the naming of the ground.

Manly would not be the first club within the National Rugby League to re-name their suburban ground following Oki Jubilee Stadium (St George), Toyota Stadium (Cronulla), EnergyAustralia Stadium (Newcastle), North Queensland’s Dairy Farmers Stadium and Brisbane’s impressive Suncorp Stadium, previously known as Lang Park.

I reckon we should be asking for more than $300k though

What's with tis moral crusade Weev?

Surely taking money away these companies is better than giving them more ?

I remember that, who, or what was 'Bruce'?  Don't answer, I really don't care now.

Don't answer, coz you don't want to look like a fool again?

Bruce is the name of the suburb the stadium is in........easy stuff

And there I was thinking it was named after Bruce Willis

Suburb in Canberra was named after Stanley Bruce, a Prime Minister in around the 1930s. Coincidently he was the last Prime Minister (and only one then) who actually lost his own seat whilst still Prime Minister, until John Howard managed to equal his record in 2007. :)  :)  :) :)
