For mine DCE form is way down but also has a joke of a pack and service from hooker. His combination with the 9 and 6 plus a mediocre forward pack over the last 2 years is a big reason he looks lost. Not well coached and crap players in key positions arouns him.

Agree that Cherry's form has been well below what's expected of anyone on his salary. But the ones responsible for "negotiating" (ie, stuffing things up so badly that they ended up offering the world just so they'd be able to keep one of our off-contract halves) that salary are the owners and recruitment team. It's not Cherry's fault he's paid more than he's worth, and, as a team, we've got way more to worry about than his indifferent form.

G'day all,Was that before or after the club having pulled his original offer off the table and telling him he was free to look elsewhere,then have to backflip themselves and offer ridiculous money to get him to backflip so they didn't look like complete dicky doodahs.

If only we could get the old DCE back. Yeah, had a good coach and support staff but also showed sheer natural talent and athleticism that had him the best half in the game a few years ago.

I wish people would get off DCEs back about the contract. Blame the management for mismanaging the whole episode. We were lucky to get him back. Thankfully he came back, but remember he would have been here for a lot less if management had been a little wiser.

The problems Manly are having have little to do with DCE. Having watched the two games this year, it looked to me that DCE was trying everything to get the team motivated and probably overdid it, causing mistakes. He knows he's under pressure from the fanbase, but he is not the team. Forget the contract for goodness sake and get on with it. Not his fault and all he can now do is his best.

Having said that I looked at Barretts team line up for the Cowboys. Lane is apparently back, which is encouraging but its looking like he'll replace Bainbridge. I'm finding Barrett's selections very confusing and wonder if he really is watching the games. Winterstein, Kennedy and Brown are there again, yet though they tried hard last week, they are obviously not first grade material. Why would you keep selecting them and ignore someone like Bainbridge, who looks to have more talent and is on the rise. Very confusing.

What you have to look at is - at his peak who he had along side him.
I would look good if I had Killer, Foz, Matai, Snake, Chock, MB etc next to me when they were in their prime.

I think that is the most shocking, damaging, freakin gobsmacking statistic I've seen so far this year (please don't tell me DCE win record without one or more of Killer, Shoulders, Snake, Gift, and that other bloke Fore, Fores, Foresk??....watever).

So the recruitment 'dummy/dummies' responsible for this signing really didn't leave a stone unturned doing the due diligence.....

1. Good consistent clean ball from the 9
2. Forwards making metres to give the half time to make the best decision and execute it

both points 1/2 rely on the 9. The 9 will get forwards on the move and over the advantage line by throwing them accurate passes when they are on the charge so they dont need to deviate, slow up, speed up, or worry that the ball is coming anywhere but their chest

Until we get rid of Api, forwards won't dominate (consistantly) and DCE wont have the time to be able to execute what he needs to do.

Just came across this from Weidler on the day DCE's mega contract was announced, 6 June 2015. A bit of perspective...

"There are very well-credentialed figures in the NRL who are saying that Cherry-Evans will be the next Australian rugby league captain.

Right now there are angry people north of the border – but they will be soothed when DCE leads a Queensland team to victory down the track.

I had a lengthy discussion with the current Australian skipper Cameron Smith about his successor and he is of the view that DCE has what it takes on and off the field to be that person.

And more important even than that endorsement is the view of Bob Fulton – one of the true heavy hitters in the rep scene.

Fulton is known to hold the same view as Smith. He has told those close to him that DCE has all of the right attributes – as a player his skills are obvious, but his family guy image and ability in front of a camera make him special.
