uring the past decade, along with his brother Brett, Stewart is off contract at season's end and has been linked to a big-money move to Canberra.

Sea Eagles general manager David Perry will lead a review of the club's playing roster in the lead-up to the 2014 season, but Manly appear increasingly resigned to losing Stewart.

"At this stage, we need to review all of our options," Perry told AAP. "We would love to keep every player at the club. Clearly, the Stewart brothers have been an integral part of our success and we would love to keep them here for the rest of their careers.

"But we have a cap we have to manage and we are going to review that in the next few weeks and determine an outcome and be as transparent as we can when that happens.

"It would be ideal to have both of them to finish up at Manly, but unfortunately with salary cap pressure and the reality of maintaining and managing that appropriately, you need to review all of that."

Brett, 28, and Glenn, 30, are entering their 11th seasons at Brookvale and could conceivably fall under long-term dispensation in the salary cap.

NRL head of football Todd Greenberg has flagged a comprehensive review of the salary cap and long-time auditor Ian Schubert has stepped down in a sign there will be sweeping change.

Sydney Roosters skipper Anthony Minichiello has been vocal in his support of greater allowances for one-club players.

But whether any of that will keep Glenn Stewart at Brookvale remains to be seen.

"We just wanted to get through the off-season and review our salary cap position and our recruitment strategy, which we are doing in the next couple of weeks," Perry said.

"In that, no doubt we will discuss all players and who is on and off contract.

"We will resolve that in due course."

This is just one of those awful moments when you realize you could lose a club legend. I love Gift, and I predict this will be the year he returns to 2011 form when he was easily the best forward in the comp, and nearly won the Dally M.

I'd hate to be in charge of recruitment, having to make a decision like this would be brutal......not to mention you have his little brother at the club and they seem as tight as two brothers can be.

Really, it's the nature of a salary cap and succession planning.

The club should get all the players together.....tell them how much money there is...then leave the players to sort out how much each one should get.

Its the NRL dragging their feet on 'one Club/10 Year' Player review 😡

Instead of the marketer's E=MC2 formula, they will realize too late, that Fans build the emotional bonds to long term Players that keep the attendances rolling on. The mid season chopping and changing of Clubs really disenfranchised a lot of Fans last year, as it will do this year.

Hope that Burgess does go to Union (and takes SBW out this year to ease his workload in Union 😛), that should kick start the NRL into ensuring that those who want to stay, can do so at a Club that has embraced them 😎

GE, the sharing the pot idea is already happening at Manly with many taking less to stay together. However, the nominal value on Players is set by the NRL, so Players agreeing to stay, can not do so for less than this arbitrary figure :dodgy:

The NRL in its review of the salary cap needs to fast track an exemption for players who have stayed at one club for over 10 years.

We should not be forced to let Gifty go or as has we had to do with Kitey.

Clubs should not be penalised for players who are loyal to a club!

GLENN Stewart's likely departure from Manly is set to scupper any hope of Sea Eagles teammate Daly Cherry-Evans returning to Queensland to play for the Broncos.

Battling salary-cap pressures, the Sea Eagles must reluctantly jettison marquee talent and Stewart is chiefly in the firing line as the 30-year-old enters his twilight years.

Linked with a big-money move to Canberra, the NSW enforcer's defection would give Manly the financial latitude to deliver Cherry-Evans the upgrade they promised last year.

Cherry-Evans' management has not ruled out the playmaker, off-contract at the end of 2015, returning to Queensland upon the expiry of his Manly deal.

The Maroons ace has privately spoken to a Broncos international about the possibility of playing for Brisbane, but by cutting Stewart the Sea Eagles can up the ante and offer Cherry-Evans a lucrative extension.

The Courier-Mail understands the prospect of Brisbane snaring Cherry-Evans has dwindled, with the halfback and his wife Vessa settled near her family on Sydney's northern beaches.

Cherry-Evans' father Troy has long-standing links with Brisbane chief executive Paul White and the pair have previously spoken informally about the possibility of the 24-year-old wearing Broncos colours.

But Manly are keen to secure Cherry-Evans for the 2016 season and have discussed a succession plan that involves the Mackay product ascending to the captaincy.

While Brisbane are unlikely to snare Cherry-Evans, the club is interested in bringing Karmichael Hunt back to Red Hill next season when his contract with AFL's Gold Coast Suns expires.

In the wake of Manly's grand-final loss to the Roosters last year, Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn spoke of the potential threat from the Broncos.

"I've heard the talk (about Cherry-Evans being lost to Brisbane) but it goes both ways," he said.

"We've been good to him and vice-versa and we need to understand exactly what he is looking for in our contract negotiations.

"Daly is a huge part of this club and we'll have discussions to keep him here for the long-term.

"I'm hopeful we'll get the right outcome."

Maybe an incentive where players who play 10 or more years at one club get 10% added to their salary by the NRL since they are loaded.

Yes funny how the nrl is dragging its feet on the 10 year exemption, this will heavily favour some teams but not help many others, no surprises that we would benefit hence the delay. In saying that I would have thought that politis would have made them push it through for mini at the rorters
