Manly eye off superstar jailbird

Winging it
MANLY coach Des Hasler is about to pluck his next superstar from the most unlikely of places - the Frank Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre at Kariong.

Sea Eagles are one of three NRL clubs showing interest in a footballer from the young offenders' institution on the Central Coast.

The teenager, an outside back, has been playing rugby union for the Kariong Wanderers on Saturdays and will be released from the institution in November.

The Sea Eagles had previously thrown a lifeline to Gary Winter, a former guest of Her Majesty who played a couple of seasons with the Northern Eagles, then Manly after the joint-venture failed.
