I’m undecided on siebs and certainly do t view him as the root of all our issues.

The squad is the issue and needs major rejuvenating. I’m not sure how this happens with an untried and unproven coach, who is going to pin their career or potential to that?

Nevertheless, at least we are doing something. As this year has been largely rubbish and persevering seems futile.

I hope this means at least 5 players are gone as wel as the ones that are leaving. Our clean out is long overdue

Mick Ennis. It's done and dusted as soon as our season is finished (Round 27) Seibs will no longer be our coach.

Not sure how I feel about this one.

Ennis is there now, he's untried and never played for the club.

But he is a winner , spent a lot of time playing under hasler, Bennett and flano and comes from a fanatical manly supporting family so he is as close to a manly player without being one.

I'd be happy to give him a go. He's lead successful teams, has represented, and won a comp. And he's been coached by lots of very good coaches.

Ennis just uses bigger words. For example, the four letter "dive" becomes the five letter "doive".

He has basically zero coaching experience! I can't believe, out of every option out there, they pick the one who was shuffled out of his previous coaching roles, and is only part-time here!!! Is Penn actually joking?

Listen to his commentary for Panthers vs Titans and that should be enough to understand how poor he'll do as a coach. I genuinely don't think he's intelligent whatsoever. You need to have a depth of ideas as a coach, and this guy simply does not have it. He has a case of the Cherry-Evans - he uses big words to sound smart, but has no idea how or where to use them.

Seibold had prior successful coaching experience and had been through the wars at the Broncos. He's a genuinely intelligent person, and he might actually be too intelligent. Des was labelled "the mad professor", and began coaching in 2000 iirc. Four years later, he had his first gig, at a club reaching absolute rock bottom. Toovey was a club legend, who gained experience by being the apprentice of Des across that (premiership-winning) time period.

Point is, everyone of these people had been in a box. They understood coaching beyond just a few drills on Wednesday.

Compare it to Ennis.

If you doubt what I'm saying, why would he have a clue? He's never been a full-time assistant coach, or even a reserve grade coach. The point of his part-time role, is that he's never present on game day, so he can offer his "scintillating" commentary to Fox. Now you expect him to run the show in the box? Know when to sub off the players? Manage the staff? What suggests he is even capable of this?

Zero feedback from anyone, zero recommendations, probably costs $3, that's the story of our club. At least Seibold had some pedigree. This is just jamming the lever back to gear Barrett.

If anything a "smart" coach might confuse or annoy players.

The game is and always will be fairly simple. A new fad might come in that takes other teams a season to catch up on but the fundamentals never change. Can Michael Ennis inspire a group of young men to train hard and get super fit? Can he gets them to buy into his coaching teams ideas and put in that extra effort play on a weekly basis? Time will tell but he was an ultra competitive person who hated losing as much as he enjoyed winning. All the great ones are.

As Cam said at the start of this thread, Ennis is already in our system. So why hasn't he been able to help make or suggest changes THIS year as an assistant coach?
I'm not entirely comfortable with Mr Ennis just being handed the keys. There is something rotten going on in HO. I can't stand our team being in the mediocre category.

Its the management and leadership of 50 odd grown men.

Its the dealing with the media and the pressure of everything being on you.

Not to say a rookie cannot do it but personally I'd like at least some lower level experience.

He would be well aware of the media. Because he is the media and has played/captained sides coached by Des Hasler, Wayne Bennett etc. He answered questions after wins and losses while seated next to the coach. I don't imagine he would be intimidated by leading 50 young men either. He's been a leader his whole life. Will he have the right formula to bring it all together?

Funnily enough 1 of the knocks on Seibold is that he is ‘too sophisticated’ & it confuses the players. This has been reported many times over the years & you can look it up to find articles if anyone thinks it sounds fake.

Nice…err…I mean noice. He’s got some tough stickers too, so he should fit in with most of today’s footballers.

Of course the big sticking point (and therefore not a sure thing) is his Foxtel contract, which still has at least a season to go.

Which is why he is not on the fulltime Sea Eagles’ staff right now.

I think with a coach like that it would be pretty much his way or the highway which can be intense and burn some players out .But going off script by players or not living up to the coaches' expectations would I feel would not be tolerated .
I always give Siebold a pass due to our injuries and cap position ,but every club has injuries, and allegedly they all have to work under a cap . However next week we will have all our 2025 starting pack out bar Jake T. If you forget injuries etc as excuses then its probably time for a change.
I like Ennis as he is a winner, can and has played the game at the highest level ,worked under some of the best at their peak and is one of the most competitive players I think I have seen .And if he can translate that to coaching then ,lesssgo !!!!

I am all in on this and think he'll be a good coach, even though I hated him playing against us. He'll teach us how to be a grub once again, we need that badly been a while since we had one. Every team needs a grub to get under their skins ruin their game plans get them send off or 2pts will be handy, and he's a master at it.

A true leader of men, played in the toughest position. 2 premierships, twice Dally M Hooker of the year and almost 300games. Just hoping we do need a change can't get any worse than this, he'll bring some mongrel back in us.
