mole reporting today that the Sharks have offered him a 1 year deal, With Manly, Roosters and Tigers also keen on him and prepared to dangle 2 years in front of him to get him to switch

I personally would like the signing, back row is position we need to strengthen and he is still playing very good footy, and he would be great cover for when Jake is away on rep duty

Couldn't care less what the number beside his age is, just about his form

I got laughed earlier in the year suggesting we should pick him up, he would be ideal for Green to have off his shoulder for 2 years. But he will stay at cronulla or go to roosters, what politis wants he gets.

I kinda hope not.

If he does come to Manly, all well and good. He's a very good player and has been for many years. Good experienced tucked somewhere inside that ole noggin'.

Yet I guess I'm a bit gun shy when it comes to having some old guys who may want to over rank dce.

Daly had to go through a lot when the old firm was having random tantrums and I think he's putting his own stamp on the team. I don't want that mucked around with.

We also don't need the ' Ben kennedy' mark II as Manly are no where near as bad as the northen eagles days.

If we have the amount of free money were rumored to have he'd be worth the gamble and it's a gamble we could afford. His form certainly warrants real consideration.

I personally hope not. He has scored a couple of intercept tries and that gets people excited about how good he is going but he is only playing solid footy at the Sharks.

The other thing about a players age is this; they are one off season or injury away from slowing right down. When you get 30+ it's a lottery every season. I remember Jamie Lyon had a great 2014 and then 2015 he came back a yard slower and got found out in defence week in week out by the younger faster outside backs.

Just because he is playing solid footy now, it will not necessarily translate to solid football next year...to give the guy a two year deal to entice him to sign is ludicrous. The Sharks are offering him 1 year because they are handling the situation intelligently. They can also afford to carry a senior player like Lewis given how well stocked they are, we do not have that luxury. We need a superstar, not a senior player on his last legs.

He's 33, BK was 31 when we got him and needed his leadership because we had none.
Jake, DCE, Green, Taupau are all senior players and have shown the leadership. For the coin LL would want, we can get some depth/upgrade the Turbos.

We should have had a crack at him prior to June 30 for 1.5 years with a club option to extend for another year if he was still going good. 2 years is too much of a risk unless he is willing to give the club a get out clause after 12 months. Or if he takes massive unders. In saying all this, 2nd row is our biggest concern, which everyone seems to agree upon.
We have signed some depth in the front row it seems and Jake is looking more and more like a prop as he fills out IMO. I think Jake will ultimately become a long mins prop.
We could have a crack at Fitzgibbon at Newcastle on the cheap, but I think we should have a real dig at Crichton. He's young, and has a real go.

wouldn't be disappointed to sign him for next year but would hate to lose Bainbridge because of it.

No, don't really want him. Good to get him although he is quite old now and the money he needs wouldn't be right for us
