New twist in Carney switch as former clubs chase cash

Todd Carney's hopes of resurrecting his career in Sydney have stalled, with former club Northern Pride demanding $15,000 in compensation and the North Queensland Cowboys also claiming to be out of pocket.
The North Sydney Bears had hoped to trumpet the acquisition of Carney as early as Monday and his signature threatened to end the 11-year link between the Bears and South Sydney, who made it clear last week they did not want any association with the controversial playmaker.
Back in town: Todd Carney hopes to make a return to Sydney with Norths.
In a further twist, Fairfax Media can reveal that as part of the agreement that Souths have with their feeder club, it is Rabbitohs head coach Anthony Seibold who has the final say on team selections for both grades.
It means that even if Carney joined Norths he would then need to be picked by Seibold, which is unlikely given Souths said last week "that there is no pathway to the NRL for Todd Carney through the Rabbitohs".
Northern Pride chief Greg Dowling said the 31-year-old was yet to be granted a release and nothing would be rubber-stamped until the Queensland Intrust Super Cup club was compensated for relocation costs.
