Lets get the Attitude back 2017

A MASSIVE part of Manly's success in recent times is an area that does not get enough credit for importance......TALK - communication.
Brett Stewart was the KING of this from the back and even when on the field in 2016, his Yap was way down coinciding with his form and confidence.....
Tommy T no doubt a future Superstar is quiet as a field mouse...at this stage and would Love him to dominate vocally from the back ASAP with some positional tips from Snake a bonus.
In the middle Jake is the best technical defender in the NRL but leads with actions more than words and Myles who was purchased specifically for experience and leadership was like Tapeface.
Lussick and Kapow were physical but again - quiet.
We may underestimate the value of Ballin's voice and old Kingy who were always in the War talking up their team mates and people can call out young Hastings at their own peril - this is an area the kid is loud and he has mongrel - a Competitive edge we need back in 2017.
Add Gift and Choc also, with Matai vocally strong out wide almost as big as his shots.
Attitude starts with Leadership, Powerful voices, direction and if this area can be addressed - will go a long way towards having a competitive footy side for 2017.
DCE - Welcome to centre stage and good luck - no doubt in the spotlight more than ever....time to lead and make more calls - Inspire....in fact time for the entire team to get loud and take control.....this quiet stuff leads to a rudderless ship of confused faces and is a Huge part of the end result....

Ben Kennedy was the absolute master of this, screamed at them non stop, grabbed the ball, ran it up and hit the opposition hard and then turned around and said " like this you ****ers" ( or something similar).

I agree, we have lacked this in recent times.

Imagine moulding the old BK - some great recent signings but the great BK - Yelled the house down and backed it up.....changes the entire game mate

What seemed like a very little thing at the time a few years back i think was something that highlighted the loss of the real close knit link of the team over the years. I can't remember the exacts, but i think it was on twitter, just a convo a fan had with Joe Galuvao where they may have been trying to get a message or some question related to something with DCE, anyway it got to a point where the fan was saying, surely you can just shoot him a txt message and Joe said something like i would if i had his number, a lot of us don't really communicate beyond training / game days. Obviously in a large squad you will never get everyone being best mates, or be expected to hang out all the time outside work. Age gaps etc.. but it was just one of those little things that triggered the thought that there was a crack in that big communication factor Maxta highlights in OP when we did have those very lucky years with a squad where players were playing for each other and not just their own spots the following week / season.

Current squad is in a position to 'create' something of their own now, as tough a challenge it will be with so many new faces, maybe trying to 'carry it on' was just too much of a challenge and the walls crumbled, hence the patching up jobs.

Hopefully Hastings onfield competive nature will inspire more talk amongst the rest. I hope he can become a dynamic Hooker like I saw Michael Monaghan become once we re-signed Ox (hope I'm not too biased coz he was such a good bloke). I think Blake green and Hastings are at perfect stages of their careers to pick up the talk and leadership that DCE and Tommy lack in their natural game. Ex halves have become decent hookers, besides monas, Buderus and Smith both made the switch pretty successful. I'm interested to see where Jackson can take it..
Experience from Green and enthusiasm from Hastings in 2017 would be a positive start!

The one thing about the golden era that definitelt stood out was the swagger the team had. They may have lost the odd game, but they made damn sure you worked for it and took away plenty of bruises with it.

Is it a chicken or the egg? Did we start showing swagger and being intimidating because we were winning? Or did we start winning because of the toughness and attitude?

Now easy to swagger when on top, when winning, when surrounded by a team of champions and tough guys. This is what makes people like Ben Kennedy (or Allan Border) so amazing. The blue print to beat Manly in 05 and 06? Shut down BK. Talk about a target on his back. And like others have said he'd take 2 hitups and not stat increasing ones, hard ball busting ones. And then turn to Watmough, Kingy, Kitey.....how could they not lift seeing that?

We don't have someone exactly like that but we have rugged players like Taupau and Lussick who need to pull off hits and runs when needed to inspire. We have Jake who just screams inspiration as he does his thing. But we need the Matai types from the back. Willing to pull off a hit or a run and really get up in the opposition faces.

But then we need the polish. Killer, Snake. These are the guys that ensured that the great intimidation turned to points. This is now Turbo and Chezs domain. They must ensure the hardwork isn't lost.

now killer has left the building one of the young bloods will step up,its the Manly way, dont panic, the team is in good hands and we will prevail. doing the eagle rock

Don't have to be vocal to be inspiring. I didn't know much about Lussick before this year. Loved what he did. If he can continue that sort of form, that will be one of the guys I want to follow.

I can see a bit of Spud in Lussick..

Actions man, If someone told me I could run through a brick wall Or I saw someone trying to run through a brick wall.

I know which one i would want to follow
