Let's be Fair Dinkum ...

I don’t know how Garrick keeps getting off scot free for the Suli falcon that led to a try. Granted it looked bad for Moses and he could’ve made a play for it if he looked up, but he was doing his job blocking the defenders running through.

Garrick’s job was to catch the ball but he let it bounce just like he did several other times in the game costing us field position and putting us under pressure.

It’s like he was scared of the ball. Not good enoguh

He's a good wing man, not a full back. Waiting for Koula to come of age or perhaps Weekes, to cover Turbo 'absences

I think last night was a combination of having some big (easy) wins of late causing complacency & our leaders (DCE, Turbo & Jake) missing & therefore no one to marshall the troops & give everyone a good kick up the erse early on in the game to refocus.

After that, panic & fatigue set in.

At least we didnt give up completely & kept trying to mount comebacks but errors (due to fatigue & panic at the clock) stopped us from getting a roll on.
I think if Schuster played we win comfortably. I also believe if Cust started we win….Walker did his best but we needed a 1/2 to partner Foran. Walker off the bench would have also caused headaches for the Raiders. With all the possession the Raiders had they should have carved us up. We struggled because of errors which in turn was due to fatigue. The difference in the scoreline was only 8 with not much time left when they scored again which made the result look worse than it was. If we had that much possession it would have been 50 plus for the 4th week in a row. Dropping Ben T & De Luis for Gosiewski was baffling!

We were bound to lose a couple games heading to finals, and I had a feeling we were going to lose last night.

The sky is not falling, all I will say is Suli marked his card last night and should never play first grade, and I was a big supporter of his. Lazy.
You didn’t think the try he scored was an indication of what he is capable of? If only he was consistent!

Last night, against my better judgement, I threw caution to the wind .. and read some of the game thread ... was quickly reminded why I don't ..

The game was a disaster .. fact. ... and the general wisdom ran between 2 main camps ...

1) Certain individual players are shiitehouse and the missed tackle/try was the sole reason for our loss ..
2) Others present a studied account of missing players, ref's decisions, bad luck and 10 other considered reasons for the loss, that in any other week, if the same reasons were presented by our opposition, the same people slam as pathetic excuse making.

Yes, we were missing very important players ... but Canberra were also missing Papalii, Wighton, Whitehead, Nicoll-Klokstad, Curtis Scott, Horsburgh, George Williams etc ..

Simple fact is ... some games are just shiite and get away from you ... our fate was as good as sealed when Canberra had 11 out of 12 sets in a row on our line ... poor bloody Keppie tackled anything that moved, got flatfooted by a nippy halfback .. and people want to blame him ... good grief ..

Could our bench been used better, were the selections right, did players make mistakes ... yeah, nah, yeah, maybe, sorta ... welcome to footy, we win it is genius, lose and it's we need an investigation ... if footy was an exact science, Stephen Hawkins would be our halfback.

Just strap yourself in ... and get ready to do it all again next week ... Rip in Manly.

I'm onto you... this is just a well disguised 'multi-quote', lol.

But the real genius is you get about 30 likes for it whereas poor ole @Eagle of London gets called a gronk!

If only you used your 'powers' to learn how to post articles.

Seriously if tom, dce, schuster were in the other night we win by more than 20.And i say that because they’re more affective than there outs.
Prob just one of the 3 tbh and you can add Jake in there as well. There’s always frustration after losses but I think at the moment the responses are heightened tenfold because games like this and knights are just ones we can easily put away. Upon reflection I think I was more frustrated watching Thursday nights game then any game I can remember in a long time. We need a big win over the dragons now and then move on with the season. The other crap thing is the Covid lockdown and us so far losing 2 home crowds (drags included) and likely the third v Tigers the other v dogs where a good deal of supporters would have turned out as well. Really bad timing as I think a crowd would have got us over Canberra for sure, possibly same for Fri night.

I think Des is bringing Burbo along slowly, as is his tendency.

I've watched the kid and he has quite a bit of potential. Good defensive style like his brothers, tries to stay involved.

But my biggest interest is how he will be used. The kid has the speed of a centre and if played wide in attack, like he did coming off Schuster, he could become quite an attacking weapon. Already seen that he follows Turbo. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in the centres, because given the space Turbo is creating, he could be quite a sight to watch.

Early days and don't want to over rate him at this stage but could be a decent Menzies like addition to the side.

Keppie did struggle to push across from marker but Jack G's attempted tackle was poor. Williams is so slow and was able to beat on his inside shoulder. If Jack's contact was better, Keppie gets there in enough time to wrap the ball up.

Further, we need to get out of this mindset that footy is as black and white as the players being good enough or not. The logic on here is something like this...
Parker has a good game = resign him to a long term deal...best defensive centre in comp
Parker has a bad game = never to be sighted in FG again...go to market for...etc.
So many factors contribute to a poor performance because it's a TEAM sport. When the team is down for whatever reason (possession for example), good players can have poor games. It happens.

Penrith lost without their Origin players and losing Cleary alone, saw their devastating attack muster up a measly 12 points against the Eels, who should have won the game, had Moses put the kick over.

We don't need a roster overhaul every time we lose a game of football...we just need to turn up as a TEAM and perform the following week.

But Manly will be an also ran side in my opinion without DCE and Turbo. They are the Fulton/Eadie combination that are the energy behind Manly's play. Add to that the rising talent of Schuster, and maybe if Fainu is available and still as clever, and you have a side that can compete with the best. But without the X Factor players DCE, Turbo and the rising Schuster, Manly are just one of the middle crowd in my opinion.

This 100%! Without Eadie/Fulton in early/mid 1970s Manly did lose these sort of games.

I think the NRL Top 8 system gives the impression some teams are going better than they really are.

Re look at the NRL table today using the old 1970s and 80s Top 5 play offs. In that light Manly would be at most be hoping snag 5th place and the elimination semi. The teams that were 4th or 5th in the 1970s and 80s were fairly mediocre teams.

One of our big issues is our lack of big game footy.

Since the end of the 10 consecutive years of finals appearances, we’ve played just 3 finals matches in 6 years.

The more finals matches and bigger games we play, the better our performances will be when we’re missing Turbo, DCE etc.

Surely you realise there is no place for sensible reasoned comments on Silvertails. Shame on you @Snake

agreed - is efforts compared to his last game at fullback were really really poor
