Lehi Hopoate

Great game from Lehi.

But was that a forward pass or just me?
Looked miles forward, but misleading due to how his body was falling at the time. It did appear to be a throwing movement with two hands in a direction backwards. The falling body combined with forward momentum sent the ball trajectory forward.

Well… that’s what I tell myself anyway

I thought it was clearly forward as well but the ref was standing basically in line & gave it the green light so you could be right

Yeah watching live thought forward. Could have gone either way. We were a bit lucky there that the ref made that call. They could easily have called it a knock on in the air as well.

You need a bit of luck this time of the year in games like that and we made the most of it.

The ref was right in perfect position for Lehi's pass, may have floated forward but not thrown forward.
And the clunker took ages on the bobble, so fair to assume that when momentarily bobbled it never made contact with the Dog player. I'm satisfied the try was not only brilliant but totally legal.

Having said that, you're 100% correct about needing luck, plenty of times in the past we've had legitimate tries disallowed so quite a relief they got that one right.

That's one of my objections to The Clunker. It was an incredible moment that had everyone at the ground on their feet. Jubilation for us; heartbreak for those in blue in white. Then I heard the Dogs' fans murmuring that The Clunker might save them. It's a atmosphere killer.
To the naked eye it was a try; everyone around me accepted it. But these days no-one accepts what they see.
For those who support The Clunker I ask, if it's this level of CSI you want then The Clunker must be used for every second of the contest, not just tries or when they decide to interfere. And for every aspect, including forward passes. Imaging that!
Sport is about the uncertainty of a contest. It's the exact opposite of perfection.

I would love to see a rule change (yeah I know no more changes) where there is no knock on when contesting a ball. If you come down with the ball it's play on regardless of what happens in the contest.
How about only a knock on if the ball touches the ground in front of you, a bobble into a opposing player is ok as long as you regather it. And we need technology to rule on weather a pass is forward or not.

It will be interesting to see what his future plans are, I would say his father will have a big say in where he goes just like all the other Hoppas, none have really ever stayed loyal to Manly which I always found strange

But this one strikes me as the pick of the litter

I’d imagine he would’ve had a similar say before he signed his last contract that was for three years. I think we will look after him
That’s the key, look after him and pay him what he is worth.

I think Papa Hoppa may have learned a valuable lesson on what went down with Albert, he was reportedly offered 400K a season by the club when Des was coach and he elected to test his worth on the open market and took 200K at the Raiders, easy math there on what was more valuable.
