Kurt Capewell

He's very similar to Andrew Davey, and he would definitely add something to the team right now. It depends on who we let go etc. Morgan, Jack, and Siro are all presently unsigned. At least two of them will likely need to be replaced.

We have been linked with Brown, Sua, and now Capewell suggests that we intend to sign a quality backrower. We could do much worse than acquiring Capewell's services.

If we really are interested, before we go waving wads of money or anything else around I reckon we should at least take a peek over or around the wall of demands his agent has thrown up, just to make sure we know exactly what we're getting into…

Capewell is quality
He's rumour milled to be at 450k - that is great value for an origin backrower.

Schuster will likely be playing a lot of 6 next year and having a Maroon is what we need - a bit more experience with the youngsters.
A pack of:
8 Aloiai 9 Fainu 10 Paseka 11 Olakau'atu 12 Capewell 13 Trbojevic
is extreme quality and could win a comp. with the following off the bench:
14 Lawton/Cust 15 Taupau (happy to keep him for next year if it keeps it up) 16 Keppie 17 Davey

With Sipley (hopefully), Fainu, Saddler, Trbojevic, Tuitivake and more coming through. Potentially keeping Sironen - hopefully at bottom dollar.

I don't think we need a top 10 forward to join to threaten for the title if Marty keeps his form up, and Paseka, Keppie, Aloiai and Olakau'atu all keep improving like they have been, with Fainu back. Throw in Foran at 6 every now and then, and Schuster moves to 11, davey to subs and capewell or olakau'atu on the bench is a really strong squad.

Would love him and a good winger/fullback signing.

If we brought Capewell and Isaako in for good money we'd have an extremely balance squad, with 4-5 stars (Tom, DCE, Jake, Schuster and potentially Fainu), a great prop rotation, and up and coming youngsters (Saab, Olakau'atu, Koula)... with a mix of experience (the first 3 stars, Foran, Capewell, potentially Sironen & Walker)... and have Tom protected by Isaako fillign in if he went down.

Get him over here. He'd be much better value than Su'a i can guarantee that much.

A bit cheaper than Sirro and that is money to spend elsewhere.. Haumole is doing Sirro's job pretty good as well.. Good buy if we let Sirro go..

Guess that as time progresses through this season and still no indication that the club wishes to re sign Siro and Jet Ski , every likelihood that a good standard back rower [ or utility type ] is being sought . Just had the impression that Des preferred to have Siro in the mix but maybe there has been a realistic calculation just what Siro has offered value for money the past 18 months or so and the interest in an alternative good level edge . Still am currently of the view that the best 2 nd row combo going forward is Shuster and Olokau - atu but again if Siro in particular is not going to be retained , Capewell does come into the frame if he is not signed for overs somewhere else

Guac is doing Siros job and some. Tge ball actually goes past Guac as well which is another plus. I’d actually be interested to see how Suli would go outside Guac and with Turbo back. Not yet tho as Harpers doin well. Suli will get his shot tho.

Whether or not we go through with the plan to sign a quality, experienced back-rower for next year will probably depend how Schuster goes at 5/8. He has been going so well at second row, as has Ola on the other side. Situation probably unfolding week by week. If we're not sure it may lead to a further shortish deal for Siro and/or Jetski while we wait to see where Shu best ends up?
