I'm sure how this will go down but I found the public display of grief from children who lost their mother fairly distasteful.

Fair enough Brett gets up on stage, he can do it of his own volition, but to have his daughters there, one as young as 6, stand in front of a packed house of drunk footballers and listen to a song as their dead mother is displayed on screen is abhorrent and cruel in my opinion.

I'm not attempting to say these children shouldn't be allowed to grieve for their mum, I'm just questioning the platform used. An attempt to display grief in a way that sells the NRL as an organisation of togetherness.

As a father with 3 young kids I just felt so awful for them. What a horrible thing to be put through for TV's sake.

Yeah I thought same it was a bit cringeworthy

That was a totally distasteful aspect of an Awards Night @

I even found the previous Kimmorley Benefit Event bizarre.
Kimmorley earnt more than the average Fan and now has an equally lucrative career.
Why they held a Fund Raiser is beyond me :wondering:

Families experience these tragic life events daily. 🙁

Award Shows are there to honour the Athletes and their Sporting achievements @

Feel for the children being retraumatized in the limelight @:worried:

I didn't watch it, but I am not at all surprised. What is surprising is that Kimmorley agreed to it.

It was as cringe worthy as any thing I've ever seen. Then Yvonne comes back to the mic and says "that's companionship everybody that is how the NRL bands together, ladies and gentlemen that is greatness." No that wasn't greatness Yvonne, that was forcing a grieving family to stand in front of a drunk crowd while being sung to.

It was so cringeworthy, it wasn't funny.

And then to have her photo come up after all the players who had past on in the last 12 months was inappropriate.

It was one of the most tasteless award nights I've ever seen. The NRL has absolutely no idea how to host an event. Just another example of AFL superiority.

And who the hell hired the overweight white guy who thinks he's from the Bronx to open the night ? That was terrible. MC Cholesterol.

Then Toddy comes out and bangs on about how great the game will be once his vision of a "stadium policy" is realised.

And Yvonne Sampson should never host again. It was amateur hour from start to finish. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it proved me wrong again and again.

Totally agree. I thought the song choice was a poor one also. Especially when you consider one of the lines of the song.

Oh yeah....
Now that you mention that it makes it even worse than I thought it was and I already thought it was a dreadful thing to do.
And it seemed to go for ever...

sort of like why do smith & thurston need a fundraiser game to benefit them after playing.
as if they'd be short of a quid!
smith probably still has a full swiss bank account from the cap cheating days😉

That's totally a Greenturd ass kissing exercise, but both are still players.😎

Kimmorley is not @

toddys busy being "inclusive" by turning the GF into a political stunt that by its very nature is divisive. good boy toddy.
Interesting point. I don't really discriminate between races, genders, sexual orientation.

But I can't abide fans of other clubs and I probably would not hire an overt Souths or parra supporter if I were interviewing them for a job.

So you're right, the game is genuinely divisive.

I'm glad others found the kimmorleys standing there as cringeworthy. I really wondered if I was being odd.

It's one thing to have adults paraded, but children? And young children. I had to turn the channel as I couldn't stomach it. And for Yvonne Sampson to say 'that's greatness' .....really what were the NRL thinking?
