Kicking game

Our kicking has been poor for a few years. Apprently poor dummy halves, poor 5/8 , poor go forward, poor assistance , covid, global warming, misunderstandings, potato prices and a slow roll out of the NBN have been to blame

While last weeks kicking display was not a masterclass it was better than anything else served up in years maybe, despite the factvgo forward last year with afb was better, we have had better games from our dummy halves but somehow with a pre conceived plan the job got done

So did we hit the jackpot last week, witness a rare phenomenon, reinvent the wheel or could this be repeated on a regular basis, or will the selection of tom move the result responsability on to his shoulders to run us to victory

Tom needs to be nursed back somewhat due to the lack of game minutes he has , and to do that we need our halves to stand up. If tom can move the team around the park in defence and inject himself sparingly at first we have more chances to compete.

We should be able to tell in the first 15 by our game leaders intent , and that will tell us a lot about our team moving forward. Tom will want to get his hands on the ball early id suggest and there may be some guilt in his mind about letting the team down, but if our leaders sit back and just let him, then they are the ones that should feel the shame.

Playing for the guys beside you

Foran kicked well but tom ran us to victory . Is this sustainable when you have super boot sitting back behind the line. We had a big wind in the second half, looked gassed, it was wet. It was made for cherry . That is his perfect conditions, but nope

Anyway as some mentioned in the game thread it appears the less he touches the ball , the better we go.

His defence was outstanding on Fifita's edge. That side of his game was superb. I thought he had a good all round game.

Foz had a go . He put his broken body on the line and was at his resilient best .
He had not been putting in like that in our earlier rounds
Great to see his change of attitude and Great to see the Real Foz back at Manly

we won 36 nil because of the pack and tom mainly. Tom gets overused and is out injured too often while others dont put themselves in positions to be injured. everyone will be crying a river if tom injures himself again in 3 weeks . we need to utilise him better. many gifted players are nursed a little to allow them more games, and assisted by there team mates. we also need to grow a brain as a team to compete on a regular basis

yesterday the game was won, foran was managing it and we had a big wind. it was the perfect opportunity for cherry to contribute his best asset. his big kick. foran was doing all the kicking, pressure was off. so where was he ? sure he defended well but defending out wide , if someone runs at you, they put you in the game. i wish he would put himself in the game and contribute with his god given skills

for years we have had to listen to cherry needs this, cherry needs that to perform but when everyone else does the lifting he contributes less. Is he is just a the field goal and backslapper. what is his role ?

many people on this forum think and say the same. If you ever want to enter a footy debate , feel free to add something real about the games and player performance . you never address anything, just blab off and leave. the balls in your court cambo. how would you describe the last 6 weeks of cherry except for his field goal and the fact he is qld captain. go on have a crack

team did well, but chez did SFA. one field goal doesnt give you permission to clock off especially after his diabolical first 4 games. he needs to string some decent games together and he lost a very good opportunity to contribute

Give me a break... we don't win the Warriors game without Chez - you know that OTHER win when we didn't have Tom...

he kicked us to victory and not just with his 1 pointer on the siren - 630m kicking metres (incl. 70m kick for try), 34 tackles, 3 line breaks and 2 try assists ...

he has been ordinary at times this year but he was good yesterday and great last week...

im not your boss, you schedule your own breaks. but before you do, answer some of these, then take the rest of the day off

are those line break stats and try assists his year stats also
do you think he was instructed to kick from des last week and why doesnt he do that more often if it works. he is captain

do you agree the team looked gassed yesterday
do you agree conditions were perfect to kick them around in the second half
do you think chez did much other than tackle people that ran at him yesterday
do you think 1 good game in 6 is good return from a qld half, our captain and highest paid player
do you think the forwards laid the platform that chez needs yesterday
does a team win excuse individual performances
do we overuse tom
do you think the top teams tolerate mediocrity even after a good win

I agree he has not been good enough this year but the idea that you can just replace a bloke like dce is silly (imo)

Chez didn't have a great game yesterday but he was still the guy backing up when breaks were made and he got up and shut down forwards one-on-one when we were under pressure on our line...

for the record, 'just tackling is not a thing - stick a halfback in there that does not 'just tackle' like cherry and see how we go... He is huge in the middle for us, puts his body on the line every time and never gets broken...

below is what i added as my original post today. was it that bad.

No, I just dont agree with the last dozen words... which is what I was sharing a differing opinion on...

and happy you do. i come here to talk footy. you contribute good stuff. its great to get other peoples perspective and we all like different styles of footy which i think is the main differential in opinions
Back at you brother... differing opinions are good - they make you think...

Plus I dont disagree with you a lot anyways james...

...just on Chez 😉

are those line break stats and try assists his year stats also. Yes? Point? Frank was stating his stats for his game last week where he was implying he had a good kicking game

do you agree the team looked gassed yesterday. Yes, all teams start to look a little gassed towards the end of games especially in the wet.
do you agree conditions were perfect to kick them around in the second half. yesterdays game is no different to any other game that is played in that all teams try to kick to corners and tackle well. We smashed them 36-0 and kept them scoreless, so what ever we did yesterday worked. We did not have to do anything differently.
do you think chez did much other than tackle people that ran at him yesterday. He had a solid game, like everyone else on the park. Tom was brilliant
do you think 1 good game in 6 is good return from a qld half, our captain and highest paid player. He admitted to playing poorly first 4 weeks, has played much better last two weeks with a MOM last week. Season is only 6 weeks old, long way to go yet to turn things around
do you think the forwards laid the platform that chez needs yesterday. The forwards were great, chez did his part, Foran was very good. The left edge was humming. We won 36-0. What is your point again?
does a team win excuse individual performances. We won 36-0. Solid team performance, always room for improvement and Im sure they will work on things this week and aim to get even better next week
do we overuse tom. Fark No. Stupidest thing I have heard.
do you think the top teams tolerate mediocrity even after a good win. Mediocrity? Your an idiot

Would have liked a few kicks for Saab yesterday. Every attacking bomb was from Foran to the other side where old mate kept catching em easily

I think that was Des' game plan to nullify hit ups from Fifita - isolate the opposite winger & tackle him in that corner.

Fifita was on the other side of the field & barely got any clean ball on their kick returns.
