Kelly deserves first shot

Young, quick, skillful with great footwork - Kelly should get first crack for Round 1.
This ensures both sides have Flair and pointscoring ability, with Walker the obvious starter and close to first picked in the 2017 side looking Super with pre season form....
Defensively strong in a 1 on 1 situation, but until its game time - will have to wait to see his decision making under pressure.
Whats the thoughts out there - is Kelly the man for Round 1, or is it a play it safer style with the more experienced Wright early on??

I just think it's critical if possible we have a rock solid 80+% goalkicker..We need all the help we can get and it might make the difference in a few of our early games which is so crucial to our season. If Dylan has the goods - great but I haven't seen enough to be convinced he is a viable long term fix.

I agree BUT I'm almost betting he wont be in the team round 1.

If I was coach I'd play him, the kids talented , and will offer a lot more than Matthew Wright BUT Wright has two benefits , he's got experience, and can kick goals.......which is why I think he'll get first dibs as a "safe" option.

I'd start with kelly, he's only young but has immense potential.
With this Season being somewhat of a building year, he will learn a great deal and maybe even shine?

on a side note, have we ever had a Koori centre pairing?

I'd love to see both Kelly & Schuster in the team!!! It's about time we blooded some youngsters & stop this playing it safe crap! If we're serious about getting back on top then we bite the bullet & start fresh.....
Tom T, Schuster, Walker, Kelly, Parker, Green, DCE.........possibly the quickest back-line in the NRL!! Yeah I know i'm dreaming arghhhhh!!!

Is there any possibility they play taufua in the centres and play kelly on the wing .
Agreed - Could do worse imo....
Consider the attacking plays of Taufua, who would be a real handful in attack with early ball and in fact, his worst issue is the high ball as a winger - which he would avoid....Many times in 2016 I preyed this move over Brown....with no luck. The only major negative I see Brad, is his lack of ability to set up his winger, in which 50% of tries are scored with that last pass critical to the mm to allow the winger to sneak over.....defensively may also rush in that bit also but he does hits solid, which is good.

Too early to be drinking Brad .... unless of course the temps over 18 degrees, then fair enough.
Sorry mate . Mum always said to me growing up that i got abit silly as the season approaches, i guess some things never change. About to crack a coldy now mate because it is over 18 degrees in Tamworth.

Not silly mate,, I just think that if Jorge had demonstrated any interest or talent for the centres he would have been used there 100 times over the past 4 seasons .... can't see it happening now we have 4 young guns vying for the position.

Also think he would probably be too flat footed in defence and beaten easily ... also would be slow to turn and chase. A centre needs to be nimble and agile on his feet to adjust quickly to a stepping opponent.

Who remembers when Tooves was coach and Killer went down and no on
Dylan is half Maori half Pitcarnian (related to Fletcher Christian on his mother's side).
Ah yes, Fletcher Christian, one of the great wild men of surfing!

Yer your probably right , i just thought if he could turn and chase and had the ball skills ( gee i just cancelled out 2 key components ) he would be devastating. Fuchk its gonna be hard to replace killer . So i guess kelly could be the go , the young fella definitely has the attributes its just going to be game time. Wright might be allWRIGHT but just not a class centre , reliable and descent D but i dont think will have that X factor.

Why does Wrights goal kicking keep getting brought up?
Walkers goal kicking % in 2016 was higher than Wrights.
I reckon Walker will be the goal kicker, unless Hastings is on the field.

If we pick Wright cause he's "safe" then our season will show similarities to 2016 where we picked for reasons other than form.

Unless Wright has completely changed his speed, his evasiveness, his goal kicking, his entire game.... then he can't surely be considered. Don't get me wrong, he's a fantastic option to be in the 25man squad as he can play all positions in the backline if there's injuries, but let's face it he didn't show enough that the Sharks wanted to keep him, he got tangled up in the asada bans, he didn't show enough that the Cowboys wanted to keep him and now he's a safe option at centre cause of his goal kicking which is worse than Walkers?...

Don't get it.

Kelly has shown in the limited time we've seen him that he's got some X factor. His sideline flick pass to Walker to keep the ball alive was awesome. His try saving tackle to stop the Souths winger was awesome. That was in 40mins of footy.

He has to be on the field, if not at centre then Uate or Tafua have to make way.

Cowboys also let Ponga and Kelly go.

Kelly may be the messiah, but he is a long way from having "to be on the field". He has played a 9's game and a trial, both against 3/4 reggie opponents.

Batty old mate, save the accolades until such time as the kid comes up against Inglis, Tedesco, Joey Leilua Waqa Blake et al.

From what I have seen, I rate him a prospect .... But I also rate Schuster and Parker.
