Yeah the only real protectI'll against TPA is a the market value caps where the NRL won't let a contract be registered for less than a certain value against the cap.

But it's been questionable how low they actually let you go.

Exactly. I mean, how many rumours were there that Darren Lockyer was on a million per year for Brisbane in his later years, yet he was allegedly only being paid 250k of that by the club itself.

But with the NRL it seems very subjective depending on the club. They wouldn't let us sign Gifty for any less than 600k, yet allowed Doesn't-matta to sign Hayne for 500. And at the time Gifty hadn't played any rep footy for 3 years and was really missing more games than he was playing because age and injury had caught up to him. Hayne was a then current Origin player who had been on a $1.2m contract at the Titans.

And the bigger corporate backing you have the better your roster can be.

The Roosters aren’t going away , they’ll continue to buy the very best on the market and will continue winning the majority of Premierships in the foreseeable future ( no that doesn’t mean every one but I reckon it’ll be the largest percentage ).
