Current SG Ball captain and prop Campbell Munn has signed a two-year deal with Canberra starting next year. Real shame, as he’s risen quickly through the grades — captaining Harold Matts in 2023, winning the SG Ball Players’ Player award earlier this year, then going on to play Jersey Flegg and even 2 games of NSW Cup at just 18/19 years of age. Canberra continue their strong poaching raid of junior clubs. Hard to believe Manly couldn’t have offered him a development deal or at least a train-and-trial spot for next year…

Yeah, tough loss seeing Munn head to Canberra — kid was flying through the system and already had Cup under his belt at just 18/19. Raiders really have turned poaching juniors into an art form. Hard to believe we couldn’t have at least offered him a dev deal or train-and-trial.


Word from the beaches is the budget’s been stretched pretty thin after a couple of years of, let’s just say, softer recruitment. Not much “gentle” about watching our best prospects walk out the door. Hearing another staffer’s been moved on too, with plenty of blame shifting going around.


On the positive side, there’s been a bit of outside support flowing into the club — let’s just say some “mineral resources” have been tapped, and with family ties now in the system, hopefully that connection helps keep some talent/$$ at home.

Manly chairman and owner Scott Penn has knocked back a secret $30 million-plus offer to sell the Sea Eagles to a syndicate of businessmen.
We can reveal the man behind the consortium is Blake Cannavo, the wealthy chief executive and managing director of mining company, Native Mineral resources.

Cannavo was a behind-the-scenes powerbroker and third-party sponsor at Newcastle for many years before moving on to Manly earlier this year.

He’s previously worked for some of the country’s most affluent and high-powered business people in Twiggy Forrest and Gina Reinhart.

I think the old players Manly has signed in recent years such as Lodge Woods and Brown have been on minimum type deals, not a million dollars.

Yep, was in a little bit of a fit of rage when I wrote that. Recovering from an op and pain wasn't so good there.

Funnily enough, when you're in a bunch of pain, the sugar hit of sacking everyone in the club, suddenly makes a lot of sense!
