Joy for Jorge - 2 year extension

Fox Sports - Market Watch

Manly have re-signed winger Jorge Taufua. Market Watch can reveal the flyer has inked a new two-year-deal.

While a season-ending knee injury sidelined him early in the season, the Sea Eagles delivered on their promise to take care of the hard runner.

The 25-year-old made his first grade debut for the club in 2012 with his career on the beaches to continue until at least the end of 2019.
This gets the "YES" vote from me
I love boy Jorge . Big, strong , tough and knows his way to the try line

Great running game and hes manly through and through but still completely suspect under the high ball... as long as we have jorge on the wing, whenever we make finals footy we reduce our chances as good halves like morgan and norman target him throughout the game

Would seem on balance a good outcome and probably the reason for the delay in his re signing may have been his reported request for a considerable upgrade previously and maybe the Manly club just being confident that he was making a sufficient recovery . Probably the emerging talent with some of the Manly twenty" s may have also prompted him to perhaps accept a lesser contract terms request if he was asking for much more money . The benefit and positive side of retaining him is that of course and again even allowing for some of his short comings , he has become an established and power based winger , automatically fits in again to the teams playing style and does relate very well to the Manly culture . Certainly now , and with Jorge re signing , quite a few capable outside backs [ with Walker being a given ] vying for outside back positions next year with the likes of Parker , Kelly , Tom and Matt Wright , Funa and Anderson and Shuster [ if both available available ] and apart from Uate . So this can only auger well for Manly going forward . However as for a high percentage goal kicker and at this stage , let"s hope for the best .

Simple, Jorge will score many more tries than Wright, therefore the extra tries will cover for the goals that DCE & Api will miss 😕😕😕😕..........does that mean we still need a goal kicker?

I am happy that he has signed and whilst he has a weakness under the high ball he is strong in all other areas.

Aside from trying to stay away from the ball in the air, has anyone else noticed Jorge hiding behind the corner post when we are receiving the ball from a kick off?. Its quite comical.

Beautiful - it's the simple things like this in life that make me happy these days. Love it.

They should just go to specialized kickers like the NFL - sits on the bench as an extra interchange and comes on to kick goals.
Hastings comes to mind, if he's still with us.

In all seriousness though, its just not the Manly way to have a specialised kicker...

Jorge will score the tries and they can find someone else to kick the goals 😉

DCE he should be practicing over the off season. He is a natural kicker and being goal kicker might also help his general playing kicking and control.

Official from the club:

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are pleased to announce the re-signing of international winger Jorge Taufua for the next two seasons.

The hard-running winger had been in fine form for the Sea Eagles in 2017 until suffering an ACL injury in the round 13 win over Canberra Raiders at Lottoland. He had scored eight tries in 12 matches.

The new deal keeps the 25-year-old on the Northern Beaches until the end of the 2019 season.

“(Coach) Trent Barrett told me when the injury happened not to worry about my future as he would be looking to keep me, and to just focus on the rehab. It put my mind at ease a little bit,’’ Taufua said.

“I’m very grateful for the faith and the support Trent and the Sea Eagles have shown in me. It was a massive relief when the deal was finalised. I love playing for Manly.”

Taufua has played 113 matches for the Sea Eagles since making his NRL and Club debut against the St George-Illawarra Dragons at WIN Jubilee Oval in round four of the 2012 season.

Manly Warringah Head of Football Bob Fulton was happy with the extension for Taufua.

“Jorge’s extension is well deserved. He has been a trojan of this club since 2012 and is certainly part of Trent Barrett’s plans moving forward,’’ Fulton said.

Sea Eagles Chief Operating Officer Neil Bare said Taufua was highly regarded at the Club by his team-mates, Coaches, and administration staff.

“Jorge’s professionalism in how he conducts himself, maturity, loyalty to our club who graded him, exceptional try scoring ability complemented with finals and grand final experiences, made his retention an important priority for the Sea Eagles,” Bare said.
