Josh Aloiai

Not sure what you're saying mate.
We have paid $250k this season
Then we'll pay $250k for the three after this.
What choice did we have, he had 4 year contract at 850k per year. If we cancelled his contract with no payment he would have sued us and won a payout most likely more than the 1 million plus his legal fees. Added to that the PR disaster in the media.

He was on less than 600k for the last 3 years.
Never let the truth get in the way of a story.

That's just making excuses for our terrible recruitment and retention, I'm sorry. Other clubs (****, even The Dragons) are able to just let their quality players leave (Zac Lomax) without having to pick up ANY freight whatsoever.

Before you suggest (as another excuse) Lomax went onto better conditions, he was set to earn $850,000 in 2025 and $875,000 in 2026 at the Dragons, but has taken a significant pay cut to join the Parramatta side for around $650,000 per-year. So he's taken a $425k hit in his own pocket - and what happens to The Dragons? Nothing - they don't pay a cent.

Please, PLEASE don't be supporting this recruitment / retention policy and strategy mate. We are in the mud salary cap, playing group, and identity wise.

Not suggesting Manly is not at fault here but there is an obvious difference between the Schu and Lomax situations... Lomax was in demand - and Parra look like f*cking geniuses now...

Surprised they gave him another extension, his form is rocks and diamonds like.

He was originally purchased to be the alpha of the pack with aggression, hasn’t played consistently enough to justify the dollars he is currently on, maybe he extended for less.

Hopefully they are not far off with Tents extension and Alioia can get consistent with his game..

This guy seems to come good for a bit every time he's due for a new contract!

Always makes silly mistakes, and keeps getting suspended for stupid things. Talks a big hair cut off the field yet rarely delivers... not a fan of this extension, was hoping he would be gone soon as yes he seems very influential to his Polynesian team mates

And lomax was prepared to leave for nothing
We were moving on the schu because if buyer remorse

Its time for the club to start getting our retention and recutiment right. You get nowehere if you are constantly trying to recover from poor decisions. These types of decisions have longer term ramifications and usually there is no quick fix. Sometimes things happen that are out of the club's control but there should always be a plan B.

We paid Schuster $1 million and cancelled the final 3 years of his contract not 3 years at 850k.

I guess it could of been worse, still erks me, that we have to cough up 200k for the next 3yrs on a player who no longer plays for us.

If his previous injury prone issues can be avoided into future seasons , should be a net plus .
Be interesting if his original contract value has been maintained .
Would certainly be a net plus if Bully can be on the books for a bit longer then his existing contract into next season .
Paseka still the most effective and consistent go forward prop , Sipps has gone to another level over the last season or so .
Have largely matched the likes of Storm , Panthers [ well certainly i st encounter ] and Roosters up front from indications this season .
Key obviously seems to be having the best available forward pack on the paddock at any set time .
Know that it applies to most sides but definitely in Manly "s case .

His a prop and every team needs them, On his day he's also a very good prop, and like EVERY PLAYER in the comp he goes missing sometimes or has a shocker, NAME a PLAYER that doesn't OR AT LEAST his teams fans don't think he does.

Its very different when a player plays for your team and the emotions of fans drive the narrative. I'm betting there are Storm fans out there saying good riddance to NAS or Rooster fans crowing about the drop balls or brain explosions from Leniu, Facts are you cant keep everyone happy all the time.

FACTS are every player has a top ceiling and a low ceiling game in them.

It all then just comes back to value for money and with Tony Mestrov running the show I'm happy that a deal was done that rewards both the player and the club.

and don't always believe whats written in the media.

When we are down on props and we are scrapping the bottom of our NSW Cup team for replacements I will be happy to see Josh's name on our team sheet as opposed to Ben Condon or Dias.

Mate, can I ask you then, what IS out culture? What's our identity?

Secondly, we've let Schuster go (paying for him for 3 years), Humphreys go. Lawton im okay with (just disappointed he's finally showing some consistency now).

But apart from our culture and identity, a 3rd question would be, what's our recruitment and retention strategy?

Particularly given 10 years of crap has just transpired.
We have extended and retained the likes of Olakau’atu, Koula, Saab, Garrick and Paseka within the past 12 months, that’s a pretty good start for me. Schuster is the glaring one, I will never argue that we should have extended him, but on the flip side we can’t provide the sort of coaching he required either

Aloiai, he is like Garrick currently for me, I watch his games, and then read about his performances on here, and they very seldom match up. And if his extension means the end of Lodge, it will be a perfect signing for me

We all know If we can match them in the middle we should win this game. Would’ve been very confident if Paseka was back but the pack is looking a bit light this weekend with Bull the only real front rower on the bench. This is the perfect opportunity for Aloiai to show the fans why he was given the extension & lead from the front. I’m backing him to have an aggressive game early & put some big hits on with Oka + Brown to break their spirit in the first 20 mins.

I was not a fan of his influence during the whole rainbow jersey situation / his silly play at times but also can acknowledge he does offer value on the park and is clearly well liked by the playing group as was shown by his 150th perso by gordy and guac.
Without knowing the contract value it is really hard to put a judgement on it. As an example if he was on 600+ you would question if he is offering that level of value where as if is 500 or so then you would be hard pressed to replace him with someone on similar money

Not trying to be provocative but I honestly am not the least bit worried about Schuster coming back to haunt us. He might have a couple of good games for another club, here and there, but he doesn’t possess the physical attributes to put egg on our face. He had them as a teenager but he has filled out and is no longer an athlete.

Sadly he's "genetics" will always be a problem.. no matter how hard he trains he is always only a minor injury away or even a few weeks holiday time away from ballooning out..
His silky skills can only take him so far as his speed in both attack and defence will really start to show him up.

I can't see any NRL side putting up with his lack of speed and effort in defence.

I agree, I feel for him because he seems to have some mental health issues, but even once he’s overcome them I don’t think he’s ever going to become a regular first grader anywhere.

It’s shame but I think it’s the reality.
