Might be worth having a read of this before getting upset over what you think the NRL should or should not be doing

The NRL can in certain circumstances demand a test (see this here 'Abhorrent': Roosters stars drug tested after clip ) but why would they when it is in the hands of the police at the moment?

For mind there was a heap of confusion around the circumstances which leads me to the conclusion perhaps it is best to let things wait before we jump to conclusions. Even if he was positive as per the NRL guidelines there is no ability for the NRL to suspend him unless it comes under the whole " reputation of the game" aspect which I am not sure you could argue in the circumstances outlined.

What is more interesting is the rumour mill in the past the Gus was keen to move him on. Considering there was not reason to even report this / he would have been free to play no matter what the result of the test (as per the NRL policy) you have to question why such a savvy operator would have managed the media situation like he has even if there were "rumours" etc

Interesting that the Aust Olympic athlete that got caught buying coke in Paris, however not testing positive for coke got banned for 12months. That’s a decent deterrent.

The rumour was out before Gus spoke about it and initially Gus defended JAC... THEN he worked out that the fox had acted, well like a fox, and lied to him...

Not sure Gus had any other recourse but to distance himself from the situation at that point... well. he did, he could have doubled down on defence like that muppet Shane Richardson... I actually think Gus has acted with integrity on this occasion and been pretty bloody honest about what went down...

However, I agree to some extent, I do not see how they all move on at the dogs and I think this spells the end of JAC in a Bulldogs jersey...

I do, I see a tight group of blokes playing with passion and having the strength to go forward, the effect of Critta leadership has been awesome to see. Obviously this is bias as I’m a Dogs fan, but let’s wait and see what comes of it, I know mates who have had false positives with swipe tests working in the mines only to find out it was negative. They won 6/7 without JAC this year when he was injured, can compare to Manly they have learnt to win without Turbo too,

Not bagging the dogs mate... they are going well...

Just dont see how JAC stays when he obviously lied to Gus and the senior management - AND Gus had to publicly walk back his support... nobody is gonna be happy, not Gus, not JAC and certainly not Ciraldo in the week leading up to an elimination final...

Oh I know, didn’t mean to sound defensive you raised some very valid points and I agree with you, in fact I don’t know what to believe, Gus Deffinetly wasn’t happy but like you said handled it well, I dunno do you reckon the fox would be stupid enough to vigorously deny it pending a lab test? Most people would come clean if they knew they were gunna be found out, I think he thought he was sweet because the cops let him drive off which has opened another issue lol

Yeah it is confusing but he would have been informed that the test indicated a positive (which is what the cops' press release stated)... maybe he thought he would be sweet when the 2nd one came back, who knows?

I did not get the impression from Gus that there was full disclosure by Josh tho...

Josh tested positive to the second test according to SMH

Addo-Carr returns positive drug test
ByMichael Chammas and Chris O'Keefe
September 13, 2024 — 3.12pm

Canterbury winger Josh Addo-Carr has returned a positive drug test, according to his lawyer.

“Police informed our office this afternoon that the secondary test carried out by Josh Addo-Carr has returned a positive result,” his lawyer Elias Tabchouri told this masthead.

“We are dealing with the situation in conjunction with Josh and will determine a path moving forward in due course.”

The Bulldogs star allegedly returned a postive test that indicated the presence of cocaine last Friday night.

He stood down from the Bulldogs finals match against Manly on Sunday afternoon.

Well, JAC is gone from Bulldogs. Whether this has any effect on their team, we can't know.

Doesn’t it bring the game into disrepute though ?
And that is why, despite the very fair points made @frank stokes , I still feel like there is something amis here.

If the dogs had played it down, even with the rumours going around, there is a scenario where they may have been able to skate through this with minimal damage.

The way Gus has handled it is very different to how I was trained in crisis management (not saying he is wrong just different) - considering how public he has been with the denials etc you can see how this is now bringing the game into disrepute

Without knowing any of the conversations JAC had with his club earlier in the week to me the bigger crime from Gould’s point of view will be his deception about the incident.

  • First he apparently said he was negative road side and no issue
  • Second he said he hasn’t use the Bondi Sugar and had a another drug test to confirm he wasn’t lying (I understand coke only stays in your system for 1 or 2 days)

I think Gus will be axe him, anything else will open the door for any other player who wants to cross the ‘line’. Plus they need cap space to sign a certain ex Parra prop?
