Jorge Taufua

Wake up people.

He is in his final year of his fifth year contract, and he is among the worst wingers in the NRL. Yes, he eats good metres coming off our line, but that is all he is good for. He can't catch, can't defend, can't pass and is too slow for a winger. I'd have him as as our last possible wing reserve.

I don't see the fuss with taufua, his only negative is his inability to catch high balls, although he was perfectly fine today. The amount of metres he makes is an amount id bloody hope not to lose. And he is solid in defence but has his hiccups every now and then like any other player... only his hiccups are more noticeable as he is seen sprinting 2000km an hour infield to make a tackle, creating space on the outside for the opposition.

That can be fixed with confidence and trust, so if this years side is trustworthy in defence you'll see a different beast out there in Taufua

As mentioned he is a little slow so if too slow and a heap of speedsters in walker, uate, trbojevic, chez, api, cullen and kelly aren't good enough than he can transition to second-row or anywhere else in the forwards I guess

When it starts to get competitive and tight the high balls will start going to Jorge and the points will flow. Every good try or thing he does in offence is invevitably erased by his defensive errors.

Because while he has his flaws, he is also very good in other areas. This isn't just a bag thread.

X He's an amazing finisher
X His carries from dummy half and from kick returns are fantastic
X His chemistry with Matai was great
X His occasional good reads in defense means when he hits, boy, he hits

BUT, just like Manu Vatuvei, he's prone to the clunker (quite often, too unfortunately). And like Tony Williams, he approaches everything far too slowly.

That one play the ball, when he does those amazing kick returns, is so important. He flicks his legs around, gets an ultra fast play-the-ball, we are facing a retiring defensive line, and our overall metres are greater through the whole set.

Get his customary slow play the ball, we are charging a set defense, meaning our metres are limited, gifting the opposition territorial dominance.
I agree with everything you have said. I'm also really glad your not dismissive of him, like some fickle others. Good post

Taufua is not actually slow...

I remember him scoring a 65m try in Gosford with Michael Morgan on his tail from the get go. Morgan barely made an impression and Jorge went all the way.

He is not the quickest laterally speaking but he is powerful and when he gets going he is more than capable.

Jeez this bring a new member thing is working out great isn't it.

Piss off for a few weeks. You just watched a Mackey mouse competition. I'm done with this place. Tafua is one of the best wingers in the Comp. He has played busted and immobile for two years and ha still done okay. @HappilyManly your pretty boy snake has ridden on his coat tails since 2012 because he was too small and weak to play a modern fullbacks game. And your other favourite the wolf had seven times the errors but apparently ten times the sex appeal. A fit Tafua will do me as our starting winger any day of the week. I'm done with people on here posting opinions with no actual knowledge base behind them. I'm off to catch some Barra.

I like Taufua.

Strong ball runner and can finish. Has his faults yes but the positives outweigh the negatives. If he can be made to play the ball faster I would be happy.

I'm in the pro Horhay camp. First picked winger for mine, I don't see anyone on our books that offers substantially more than he does. His play the balls are frustrating, but I've learned to live with it as it's not often you are desperately trying to get a roll on from a wingers hit up.

Very well put, hope you caught a ripper!

My thoughts are is that he would be a handful to be playing against and would be snapped up quickly on the market

Keeper for mine and the up coming season will determine for how long and what position

As much as I want to see Cullen, Kelly Schuster etc step up they are not where Taffy is yet. Barring any injury or someone "training the house down" he will run out against Parra and we go from there. Barrett has shown he will pick and stick which I would expect for the first few games. I would like Taffy's 2016 season heroics rewarded (he played on when he should have treated an infected collarbone break). He's 25 and in the prime of his life, the next three years could be epic from him.

It is amazing how ever other team has wingers that never make a mistake.

It is the modern games tactics to send all attack and kicks to the wing, every winger is made to look a fool.

Here is a challenge for the one eyed .... pick a winger, any winger and let us compare error rates after 10 rounds. I guarantee you all will be well into the double figures and some a whole lot worse than Jorge.

PS (Parker is a centre, NOT a winger)

I see what y'all sayin' (ew) but I like Jorge.

I don't think there's another winger that gets to the line so consistently when he gets the ball 10 mtrs out.

Takes good pressure off the forwards with his hitups (maybe he's slow to get up to give the forwards time to get back onside?)

I remember when we all bagged him about not jumping...then found out he'd been playing with some injury or a brace stopping his arms to go above his head.

One try (today?) he got bagged for not chasing...the one where whomever it was ran around Taupau...but he dived and nearly clipped the guy into touch. It's the nines....when you're flat on your gut and a speedster is on his way...probably many others wouldn't give chase. Remember it was stinking hot there and you can't empty the tank too quickly (I dunno)

Ok, he has some issues...but I don't think they are all that bad in the 13 a side state of things. I think he's raring to go this year so ask me around October sometime.

But, I'm more than happy with him there. Always happy if the wing spot is being highly contested as well.

Go the Jorge!

:handpointup:This is a much more realistic appraisal of his performance on the weekend.
