Jorge in the centres?

Could Jorge play center?

I think he would go alright. His weaknesses are the high ball and positioning sometimes on the wing. Him in the centres would allow a faster winger who was better under the high ball.

Hey Lyon..........I actually mentioned this in the 'is this a possibility' thread. I think Jorge would be a great Center....he has mongrel defense, wouldn't be caught out of position like he does on the wing, has tackle breaking ability, good bustling speed & wouldn't be required to take bombs!! This would allow someone like Omar Slaimankhel to come into the wing position. Omar is quick, good defense, can take bombs, can kick goal!!!! A back line of Trbo, Uate, Walker, Taufua, Slaimankhel, Green & DCE.........if these guys click & our forwards can hold their own, which I'm sure they can, then I'm happy for 2017!

To slow

Can he pass ?
This is the issue to deal with- knowing how to set up his winger v go himself. It is something Walker lacks.

I think Jorge could do it if needed and might be better for him defensively.

anyone can play centre, just a question if they will be any good at it.

Jorge has the size but it definitely a big unknown, I have ever seen him play there.

he doesn't turn on a dime .... but he could surprise at centre (pleasantly hopefully), if he was actually paying attention & learning from being outside one of the games best

I think there are very good reasons that in 6 years in grade, even when we were desperate for a centre, Jorge was never put there.

He has obviously displayed no interest nor has he convinced anyone on the coaching staff that he has any of the prerequisite skills.

1. He is a brilliant finishing winger.
2. A centre needs to be switched on for the entire eighty minutes. This Jorge ain't.
Horses for courses.

Remember when Manly put fatty Vautin in at prop for a few games. He loved it! "Playing front row is easy, all you have to do is stay in the middle and tackle", he said. That suited his game at the time, considering his age.

Jorge should stay on the wing. Playing centre requires a lot more thinking than many people imagine. (Think about that sentence, lol)

You have to be able to read the plays well in defence and attack. You need a good skill set, a no look flick pass is a deadly weapon that a lot of good centres possess. A side step, a burst of speed, solid defence and good, non verbal communication skills.

Sh1t, now I'm confused. Am I describing Lyon or Matai??? Jorge is an excellent finisher. He knows his job is to bullock his way to the line and score however possible. When fully fit, he does that very well.

In terms of Jorge, and his skill set, the time for him to switch to centre was two or three years ago.
I feel back row is a better bet for Jorge, and consequently a better bet for Manly.

He could be sensational, he could be well... Delusional. I reckon he'll be good there although my only worry is that he sometimes stutters in defence and in the centres could leave space outside. Worth the risk if we lock up a good winger... DWZ maybe 😉
