Agree. We don't want to finish 5 th and newcastle 4th and therefore have to play them at Newcastle on a friday night.

The judiciary is a joke. He was charged with a grade 3. What possible evidence did he come up with to get it downgraded? If it's not grade 3 to start with don't charge him with that rating.

A dummy spit(I'm taking my bat and ball and going to pommy land) is what got the downgrade.

A big issue overlooked here is his ability as a leader. A captain is supposed to be the voice of reason in a side. When all things around you are going pear shaped you are supposed to calm the situation, sum it up and get on with the game and try to win it. I'd hate to be a player in that sistuation and turn around for some direction and your captain is carrying on like a spoilt brat who hasn't got his way.I'ts not the first time he has carried on like a goose and I bet it's not the last. How he ever captained Australia is beyond me.

As a police officer, if i made out a legal arrest, I would want to know why the charge that I made out to the satisfaction of my superiors & the law is not being followed in the application of a prosecution.

Ask the prosecutor !

I'm cool with it.. TBH

I have said the whole time.. i don't really see it as that big of an issue.. i swear, just about everyone in the world swears... i'm not condoning it, as of course it isn't the best thing to do when your a role model.

What happens on the field stays on the field... it's not like he hit the bloke it's just a couple of heated words... i prolly use the same words when someone cuts me off on the road

Im fairly much in agreeance with you Nutz. Except for the very important principal which i have made above and copied directly below :

"As a police officer, if i made out a legal arrest, I would want to know why the charge that I made out to the satisfaction of my superiors & the law is not being followed in the application of a prosecution.

Its actually a very important question to pose about this issue. Ive read a cartfull of of crap from a cartfull of nobodies with opinions but without factual observations. Its about time someone either agreed or challenged me on the above.

i dont know what is worse. the NRL down grading the charge or

channel 7 having a "NEWS FLASH" to tell us about it, any other sports matter never gets a mention in a news update let alone a newsflash.

For The NRL Judiciary ............

The swearing is not the issue. It is the utter contempt he showed toward an official of the game. I've played the game for a lot of years and yes officials get it wrong!
And players sometimes go off the deep end. Understood.

Whether they like it or not these players are the role models for kids. As an official at a junior club who is trying to stop this sort of behaviour from players, parents and spectators I can't see why, just because he is the best player in the world(not my opinion) he can get away with this sort of behaiour. If it was a once off- maybe. He is a repeat offender of poor sportsmanship. If the kids I have coached ever behaved as he does they would be sitting on the sideline no matter how good they play.

Over-inflated egos like Johns don't deserve to play our great game. He's not the only one but he's the highest profile one.

He brought the game into disrepute. He undermined the credibility of what gives him his fame. Did he do the same to the touchie who missed McDougall's cowardly kick to Toovey, thereby contributing to their win in the 97 GF? Mistakes!!! Yes. Responsibility - No!!!!!

What I hate about what has happened is the way Johns came out in his column in the sunday paper and said that he wasnt going to apologise and that the touch judge should apologise to him.

Then when he is faced with the reaility of missing the semis he does a 360 degree turn and apolgises. His apology was not sincere and he only did it to get his charge downgraded.

Then in todays paper it is all about him threatening to quit the NRL and play overseas. He has blackmailed the NRL into downgrading his charge.

The guy is two faced and has no credablity. He will do the same thing again before he retires.

Junior referees already cop enough abuse each weekend and this decision will not improve the situation

**** ing joke.

The NRL have lost a lot of credibility tonight.

If they had any in the first place. Joke of a decision. They will lose both games without Johns. So i doubt they will make the top 4 now. We do however need to beat Souths to fight off competition as Dogs and Storm arent an easy finish home.

As much as I hate to say it , the downgrade was probably a fair decision. Especially when you compare it to Jeremy Smiths (Parra) push on the referee in their round #13 clash with the Dragons. He only received 4 weeks for that indiscretion.

I'm sick & tired of the "media hype" over Andrew Johns. His threats of leaving the NRL & heading to the UK are a joke. Pack your bags , I say . No one player is bigger than the game. I'm also becoming tiresome of chumps like Harragon & Matty Johns (Chipmunk) defending his actions.

Joey has become a very angry man of late. People defending him are saying how great a player he is & his passion for the game. I don't see guys like Hindmarsh , Kennedy , Lockyer etc carrying on in this fashion. Hopefully he has learnt his lesson.

What a load of horse ****e - it shows the NRL have no balls!

Although not condoning Johns' comments, NRL chief executive David Gallop said the Knights skipper's apology showed he felt genuine contrition for what had happened.

"I am entirely comfortable with our judiciary process and the result, importantly Johns has had time to prepare his defence properly, he should be given credit for his clear apology," Gallop said.

"This is not a case about mere swearing on the field, it was a case about the abuse of an official.

"We have a responsibility for junior sport and the community in general to promote respect for authority."

If they were serious about their responsibility, he would & should have got the 4 weeks!

1 rule for some, another rule for others....... :naughty:

Fair enough I guess I was surprised he got 2 weeks when I found out. Because the NRL are dead set rorters when it comes to crap like this.

I see he's apologised in the paper now as well.

Not even worth reading.

He should have got the 3 nothing more or less. If this was another player with lower status or Hoppa for instance, it would be all over

Hagan says this nonsense from Johns is "passion". Is he therefore alleging that Steve Menzies, who once in 300 games was sin-binned for dissent (no swearing mind you) plays without passion? Pull the other one, it plays jingle bells.

Basically the NRL have accepted a trite "apology" after Johns had spent the previous 48 hours airing his dirty laundry through the national media and rubbishing the capability of the touch judge.

How can they honestly buy this "contrition"? It reminds me of the schoolyard thugs who spit on the underlings on the way into the principals office before alleging their contrition whilst in with the big man.

dumb dumb dumb

Word cannot describe how pissed off I am about the lousey 2 weeks he got away with. What a crock of ****e!!!
