John Hopoate

Not to mention his fingers all over the complementary date slice.

Not many have the Great honor of having their fingers all over a Manly Premiership Winning Trophy and live up to our legendary clubs high benchmark expectations

The moral of the story ...
Each one of us is much more than the worst things that we have ever done
We are also as Great as the Great things we have ever done

Many have worn our legendary clubs jersey
But not all have Graced our Mighty Manly club with Premiership Winning Glory

We Will remember them
Lest we forget

The Snitch: Pani Hopoate latest in her family to appear in court on driving matter

by Brenden Hills

Who is the latest member of a controversial NRL family to face court? What did a famous lawyer’s house sell for? Why has there been a Melissa Caddick sighting in Kuta? The Snitch is here.

There is mounting evidence that driving in an illegal fashion might be a problem that runs in the family of ex-NRL star John Hopoate.

His NRLW star daughter, Pani Hopoate, is set to face court next month to answer to one charge of driving with a suspended licence.

A successful rugby league star in her own right, Pani, 20, is following in her famous father’s footsteps on the field.

The explosive prop forward for the Roosters has already represented Tonga.

But the fear is she will also replicate her family’s efforts in the courtroom when it comes to traffic dramas.

Hopoate Snr, a former Manly Sea Eagles and State of Origin winger, has had a long run of traffic dramas, ranging from having his licence suspended 13 times, driving while suspended, or road rage.

The most recent incident occurred in January, when Hopoate posted a video of himself in the middle of a road rage incident to Instagram.

In 2019, Hopoate’s wife Rasa was fined $500 in Manly Local Court for allowing a toddler to ride in the front seat of a luxury car.

Pani Hopoate will face Manly Local Court on October 16.

I’m more worried he’s going to insert himself into Lehi’s contract negotiations. He needs to be faaaaar away.

Understandably John won't want to see his boy not playing first grade. The problem is that we have 5 backline spots.....and 6 leading backline players: Turbo, Saab, Koula, Garrick and Talau. The problem being, where does Lehi fit??

IMO, Turbo, Garrick, Saab's and Koula's spots are safe. That would leave the other wing between Talau and Hopoate.

If his kids aren't getting a lot of a look in at first grade at Manly, John Hopoate hasn't been adverse to steering his kids towards other clubs.

If he doesn’t get a full time gig, I’d have him as #14. This kid is special. We can’t lose him at any cost.

On form Lehi is in the back 5 no problem, the club have been lucky in bringing along a generational player in Turbo and Lehi looks likely.

On season 2024 the remuneration value and form of Garrick is the one for me who could be shopped about to get an edge forward or two, 650K tied up where there is depth and junior talent coming through to cover.

It will be interesting to see how Lehi goes with a bit more weight and bulk on his frame. Will he lose elusiveness? Speed? Or will he retain those attributes and really start smashing through tackles? 🤔

I fully agree mate. But I would not put it past John even in that situation to start shopping around other clubs for his boy.

There are plenty lower ranked, and even some higher ranked clubs, who would love to have Lehi Hopoate as their starting NRL fullback or even as a winger.

Yes because finishing in the top 8 and getting to week 2 of the Finals meant we were so poor with Garrick at centre. Good to know you know more about it than our coaching staff do..... @

I'm pretty sure Garrick has to be under 650K, otherwise the DT probably would've named him in the "Rich 100" list or whatever. The cutoff for that was 600K, with Brooks, Olakau'atu, Jake, DCE and Tom on the list. If that's the case, then Garrick knocking down 800K for fullback at Knights becomes more telling of where his loyalties lie.

We've had so many players who have come through and showed little to no effort at all, like Schuster, but here you have Garrick. A professional, who went from a below average winger in 2019, to the Dally M winger in 2021, a bad fullback in 2020, to being offered starting fullback by the Knights by the end of 2022, an average centre in 2024, and then...?

He wants to be here, to the point where we have him on arguably unders, he is incredibly skillful, and he always improves. He's in the fringe rep conversations, and his selection in the PM's side shows that. Getting rid of Garrick is something I cannot agree with at all.

Talau might be the hardest one to keep.
The others are all on multi-year contracts, even Hoppa although he deserves an upgrade.
But pretty sure Talau could be open to offers from 1 Nov as he only signed for this year and next.

No doubt he has been a fantastic for the club on and off the field, there is depth in the three quarters at the club, for the club to improve on this season they need to look at the weaknesses and improve in those positions for me to compete against the top four teams.

It’s a hard decision for someone to make and someone on decent remuneration could be shopped to facilitate this.

How else do the club improve in getting and edge forward, prop and potentially a number 9 with the salary cap constraints in your view?

Doubt that Lehi will put on that much extra bulk and really does not need it with his present running technique and style .
Admittedly got a bit rag dolled against the Dogs in that recent elimination final but just like Saab gaining a little bit more bulk to aid his hit ups , probably would expect the same outcome with Lehi with no loss of all round elusiveness and speed
