Joey Walsh

Does anyone have an update on how Joey is going ?

Actually any info on Onitoni Large would also be good.
I think Joey was getting ready to step up for NSW cup last week off the bench, but didn't play
Only seen him in 2 games
Against NZ scored 3 and done well, but next game marked hard and still decent but contained, think was named on extended bench for NSW cup last weekend ?
Watching Large seems like a great runner of the footy, maybe more a centre imo, but could play a running 5/8 beside a 7 who controls a game....out atm injured
I think that dummy half we got from Dogs has been impressive to the Manly staff and looks to be on the up and only early days, so great sign with Ashton Large slso looking a good "young" dummy half of potential

One thing that’s quietly nagging at me is just how focused Joey Walsh seems to be on his side hustle: hairdressing. He’s running his own brand, which is 'walsh_cutz' on Instagram etc. If you scroll through the Instagram stories on his main account 'joeywalshh_', it’s almost entirely clips about opening or rebranding his salon, cutting hair, or showing off fades.

I know players have lives outside of footy, and maybe I’m reading too much into it, but we’re talking about the guy who’s been brought in to help fill the shoes of arguably our most important player of the last decade. I’d have thought all energy would be going into footy... extra training, extra film, extra everything, not perfecting the next skin fade.

Hard to shake the feeling that the priorities might be a bit off.

Are you serious?

He has had 20 insta posts since 2019 and looks like having fun running his part time hair cuts since 2020 by looking at his insta stories.

I am sure he is focused on his rugby league career and hopefullybecominga star for Manly.

Leave the kid alone to enjoy himself outside of rugby league.

stories, not posts. Stories are temporary and disappear and there have been tons of them over the past 3/6 months at least.

🎣 are you the mole in disguise? 😉

If anything it will help him to be a more balanced person by understanding how hard you have to work in the "real world"
Exactly, 💯 the club is focused on educating young players on education and life after footy.

What about Onitoni Large? He’s been missing for weeks too.
Think he had a shoulder injury. Disappointing start to the year for him & Walsh only playing a handful of games each.

Since the SG Ball season is over does anyone know if Large is stepping up or playing school Rugby? Makasini from tigers juniors is pretty much in an identical position career wise & apparently school Rugby becomes priority at this time of year?

If you think footy players are footy players 24/7 you are way off. They need interests outside of footy to switch off and clear their head.
He could be doing much worse things in his spare time than cutting hair that for sure.
He seems like a very switched young man.
