Jesse Martin to Souths

Looked like a good, solid allround workhorse....but can't keep them all - expect 3-4 others to move in coming weeks also

Spot on. Martin and David Furner are close family friends, as Furner is Souths assistant coach it was always going to be a battle to keep him here.

Quite a few of the NYC boys where on the last year of their contracts so will definitely lose more. Will also struggle to keep Cust and Tarrant as both are unsigned past 2018 so will attract a lot of rival clubs interest and dollars.

Nature of the beast, you win some, lose some.

was captain earlier in the season and helped get us back into the grand final when he came on from the bench.

Would probably be that souffs offered more $$ and can't blame any kid for taking it

It is true that every club struggles to retain young players, its the nature of the competition that is now. It is a shame that the NRL does nothing to promote one club players and that clubs are not allowed to retain young players and are outbid by other clubs. Our Holden cup team performed a miracle to win their competition and it is sad that we inevitably will lose players from this team.

Olakautu had an outstanding season, will either be in the 30 man squad or one of the 6 development players. Wears the number 13 but actually plays second row. Will need a big off season working on his defense.

Signed the entire squad they said. Well certainly all the ones the club wanted to keep they said. Nek minute. The Captain surely one of the ones you would want to keep gooone. This off season just keeps on giving.

Having the c next to his name does not equal That he should be kept.....
The best leader gets the c, not necessarily the best player.

We re signed Anderson

SEA EAGLES EXTEND BOOM ROOKIE

Manly have re-signed Holden Cup fullback Jade Anderson.

The NYC gun has inked a two-year development deal after a successful season which finished with a courageous 20s grand final victory.

Anderson finished 2017 with 16 tries in 21 appearances and averaged 112.7 running metres per game.

Want to here confirmation on that big lock who has unlimited potential- almost a Mateo style but plays with way better attitude.

Not too sure how things are at present with the ideal retention of as many of the successful 20 "s squad as feasible and in regard to the rookie cap contract arrangement for Manly . Really good of course that now Anderson has committed to the Sea Eagles . Fainu definitely has , Tom Wright is still contracted for next season , Big Paseka , should be. As for Fanu , Olakauatu [ of course a real good young gun ] kioa , Cust and others , i am not aware . Some can still play in the 20"s and again should be priorities to retain , Shame about young Martin and possibly Bainbridge but there were also still good prospects like luke Polselli on the extended bench at season"s end . So this just was one junior squad with an abundance of talent and of course just so difficult to keep them all , however still preferable to retain as many as possible

Think he was only contracted for 2017, the club would love to keep him as they rate him highly. However a smart player manager would be shopping him around to every club and letting him go to the highest bidder.

Tevita Funa, Manase Fainu, Tom Wright, Taneila Paseka and now Jade Anderson all signed, sealed and delivered. Cade Cust, Jaiden Tarrant and Luke Polselli all signed until the end of 2018 (so can start negotiating with rival clubs for 2019 now). Not sure on Olakauatu, Maarbanni, Smalley, Kioa, or Andrews.

Cust, Fainu, Olakatu, Smalley, Kioa, Tarrant, Andrews, Funa, Polselli, Titmuss and Maarbanni all eligible for Jersey Flegg U20's again. Back to back titles anyone.
