Jason Saab

Is Saaby injured?? I thought he was MIA last night. He was nowhere to be seen when Coates scored his last try. Actually Reuben from the other wing was the only one chasing (and almost caught ) Coates. That's 3 tries down Saaby wing!!! He had a couple of good opportunities from Tom but looked reluctant to put the foot down. There is something not quite right with the guy atm.

That was Coates 2nd last try and if you watch the try, Saab came all the way from his side to try and stop the try. The ball was passed back inside. Impossible for Saab to do anymore.
Meanwhile lazy Turbo just jogged straight at a slow speed chasing nobody.

The last try was a kick to Lehi, hardly a try down his side.

So do you think he is playing well atm?

He is playing ok, certainly not in top form but nowhere near as bad as you imply and incorrectly assume when tries are scored on his side.

He scored a try you know, or did you ignore that as well?
Lets agree to disagree. I don't think he is playing well at all.

Watch the game again as there were 3 tries scored down his wing. The first one was when he ran out of the line to take the Melbourne centre and leave Coates wide open to score. The 2nd one yes i agree he was there chasing in the middle but when Coates ran to the wing he did not chase him down. Reuben did. The 3rd try was a great take from Coates off Lehi but again where was Saab?? Re his try off Turbo....yes he scored but beautifully setup by Turbo. Hardly blinding speed to score!!!

I admire your support of the guy but he is just not playing 1st grade standard footy. Either Tommy Talau or Faulalo deserve that spot. Just my opinion.

I agree he’s not playing well at all but never really has been that effective outside of running around wingers to pass the ball back inside to support. It’s a play that turns a lot of half chances into tries and that’s why he gets picked. In terms of the yardage carry, effort plays, defence, turning to chase kicks, and good hands, etc, he is one of the more average wingers in the competition.

I can forgive him for the first Coates try because he has to follow Tom if he hits in but agree that the rest were lazy. When the long ball was thrown, he gave up on the play, then the final try…everyone knows that getting around your fullback on those high kicks is critical. Even if you have to do an escort, you’re better off giving away a penalty than a try. Poor Lehi was hung out to dry by his teammates on that one.

Thank you
I thought I was the only who had this obvious opinion of him.
But Seibold clearly to him has a different view.
His attempt to cut down the play which eventuated in the Coates try was lame at the least.Which left Garrick to pick up Saabs inefficiencies.
Absolutely bring Tommy Talua back!

Still more positives then not in keeping Saab in his wing role .
No question Talau and Faulalo have got quite a bit going for them as well but not that certain type of X factor that Saab can provide all things normal

On that first try, he actually did contact the ball... Say what you want, but he wasn't in the wrong position.

Saab was chasing Anderson on the second iirc, and was about mid-field when Coates received the ball on the left. Saab has pace, but he can't accelerate that quickly, to get to him. Garrick was already at full pace.

I'll need to rewatch the third, but Saab shouldn't be crowding out Hoppa.

Most of these are the result of being short on his side. That's not Saab's responsibility. There's near to nothing you can do, besides jamming (which he did on one), and going for an intercept (which he did on the other).

He's not going fantastic, but far out, he isn't Jaxson Paulo. He's alright for the time being. His yardage carries were better in the second half.

I think he needs to rediscover some confidence.

Aren't we expecting a bit too much out of Saab here for the second try? He's come running in from the far side to shut down Anderson, why are we expecting him to be able to turn around and get to Coates from a dead start ahead of Garrick who's already at close to full speed sprinting in that same direction?

Third try was him and Tom giving bad protection for Lehi and giving Coates too easy a run to the ball, but if they run too obvious a block then it's a penalty, so what do you do?

Having said all of that, I've always preferred Talau.
