Make Manly Great Again #Hasler2019
before I make this point about Cleary.
I want make it really clear this isn’t a shot at T Baz I think he’s done and outstanding job especially in the last 18 months and deserves to be secure in his job.

But I really hope one day Cleary coaches our club. I love how he get the best out of his teams. He did wonders at the Warriors, did a great job rebuilding Penrith and now look what he has done transforming the basket case that was the Tigers.

I agree - I'm a huge supporter or Barrett and hope he stays for 10 years...and its not a competition between them.

But Ivan Cleary is just class and it's no coincidence the Tigers defence has improved 10 fold since he came in. He just oozes calmness & authenticity. How do Penrith feel flicking him for Anthony Griffin ???

Agreed! Nice unassuming bloke who obviously has talent. Hopefully we enjoy years of success with TB but all us Manly fans love ex players coaching us!!! 😉

I wouldn't of been surprised if someone at Manly had 'Cleary-Cleary/Coach-halfback 2020' as backup to Baz if he wasn't going as well as he clearly is.

I like Cleary, good dry sense of humour. Average Centre and decent Goal Kicker in his time.

I think many outsiders don't know/forget he was a Manly junior and came into 1st grade with us.

If he ever became our coach, good chance of a premiership as most of all our past premiership coaches had played for Manly.

Clearly was on the Matty Johns show last night and named Cliffy as one of the best players he ever played with.

And also if I remember correctly came to grade pretty late (23 or so)? I grew up with Ivan and played cricket and soccer with him. Honestly he was that athletic and talented not just physically but mentally as well it is no wonder he carved out a pretty good footy career and has established himself as one of the better 1st grade coaches

Ivan's a great bloke and understand that he is well respected by the players. He's been coaching for a lot longer than TBaz and has a win record of 48% up until end of last year. TBaz is at 45% early on in his career and can see those figures climbing. If we ever did need a coach in the future I would not mind him at all. But hoping that TBaz can build a legacy with us.

Might happen one day, but i think trent will be here for as long as Hasler was . We'll win a couple of comps in the next few years with this crop we have , so the jobs his.

Happy with Baz.

Cleary makes some peculiar decisions, shock selections and bizarre recruitment ideas.

I think he is an interesting character, good for the game, good for a club on the rebuild and what not, but he has been around a long time and is yet to manage consistency of any kind. Even the years in which he has found success, it has been fleeting. Like the Warriors big run to the GF in 2011 after an average all-round year. Penrith in 2015 we a little better, but still dropped 10 matches throughout the year.

Other than that, he really hasn't achieved anything of note.

Agreed, probably a better people person and culture-builder than a great coach of an already-built team.

I agree Ivan is a wonder coach. I just don't think he'd come to Manly. He seems really happy at Wests. Also, why would he leave when he's winning? After he takes them to the minor premiership this year, they'll probably re-sign him to a longer term deal. And then Nathan Cleary will join him and they'll sign some top tier players.
I agree with everything you said, Ivan.

Cleary has been a 1st Grade Coach since 2006 - Barrett since 2016!!! Probably will be just as good when he's coached for the same number of years!

Probably the two best coaches of this generation, considering the weaker rosters they have compared to the Storm, Broncs, Cows, Roosters etc.

Big fan of Cleary, he has quickly turned around a pretty ordinary Tigers outfit in one offseason. Had success with the Warriors when no one else can seem to. I'm happy with Baz, they seem similar types of man managers although if are new coach is needed somewhere in the future I'd be more than happy with Cleary.

There may be only one solution. The Baz might just have to roll up the sleeves, put on a Maroon and White jumper and play a game as an Eagle. Would he then be universally accepted?

By seasons end when Tigers finish 14th, ppl will again question him as a coach.
I agree with Cambo - the bloke can coach and will go on to coach NRL, winning plenty and improving player/teams along the way.
I’m not getting carried away with this giant killer stuff, Tigers will fade like Illawarra did in 2017....maybe more so....Cleary deserves credit for getting them up the first 2 rounds, but not even he can save that ship when it starts sinking.

I can see the Tigpies missing the 8. Teams will work them out and their lack of depth will hurt.

I do think thought they will improve under cleary and will be top 8 contenders in a year or 2.
