Its Tooveys Time

To paraphrase his own words, there ought to be an investigation if Geoff Toovey isn’t being seriously considered as NSW's next State of Origin coach. Of all the contenders being thrown up to replace Michael Maguire, Toovey may be the best credentialled of the lot.

He captained Manly to a premiership and played 16 Origin games for the Blues, becoming a valued member of series-winning sides. He knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

Toovey took that passion, knowledge and die-for-the-cause attitude into coaching - and did a bloody reasonable job of that as well. His 58 per cent win record across 105 games as an NRL coach at Manly, including a grand final appearance in 2013 and three top eight finishes, is a record many would kill for.

Critics whisper Toovey's been out of the game too long to be considered for Origin. Really? Brad Fittler hadn’t coached in the NRL for nine years when he was given the keys to the Blues in 2018.

Before him, Laurie Daley had never coached a club side when he landed the job in 2013.
Among the contenders for Maguire's position, Matt King, Danny Buderus and Michael Ennis
have not coached an NRL game between them.

Toovey kept his hand in by coaching NSW's under-17 invitational team and was assistant coach to the NSW women's team. He also helped out Samoa at the last World Cup.

The 55-year-old remains a keen student of the game through his involvement in Manly's pathways program. Rugby league is still very much in his veins.

I'm happy with this consideration and Tooves took over a disjointed Manly side and imo done a Super job at that time.
He had a star studded Manly lineup, but was in tatters behind the scennes not just due to Des walking, but the way it played out caused many divisions at the time...yet Toovey put the pieces tgether and if not for the most inept refereeing in Grand Final history, done enough to coach Manly to Premiership glory.
When I heard Barretts name I thought it had to be a stitch up, but to hear Tooves I was immediately feeling this option could well pay dividends and is far more on a positive track ...

Never have seen a Trent Barett or Seibold Manly Crowd Banner at our Sacred home Ground
Our Sacred home Ground was Made sacred by the Passionate Manly Blood that was spilt by our Great Iconic Manly Men
Nothing Manly Iconic about Barrett or Seibold
No Manly Premiership has ever been won by a Manly outsider
But it appears Mestrov and Penn have their own Seibold Banner
And we all know what they can do with it
They can wipe their Ass with it
Nothing Personal here
Here is all about the Manly Passion !!!

How good would it be if Tooves took the reigns of NSW just as Nathan Cleary hit his straps in SOO??

I f^cking love this idea... Tooves was an absolute legend, as tough as tough gets and I reckon he is perfect for the origin coach... certainly head-and-shoulders above Barrett, Pay and a whole bunch of other names I have seen thrown up...

You have coaches like Seibold and Benji that have Wooden spoons on their resume
But they both have Head coach jobs
Where is the Justice ???
There is no Justice in this life
In this life we have Mans Discrimination Law
We will all find justice in Gods Law in the after life

Always will be a Manly legend but would be very surprised and for a few reasons and for Tooves to be given a S O O gig

Life is full of surprises
and so....
nothing should surprise us any more feathered friend
We always must be on stand by
to expect the inexplicable and unexpected

The game's passed him by
The game has not passed him by
Opportunities have passed him by
He was not given an opportunity

What does opportunity mean ?
It does not mean lack of ability
An opportunity is a situation in which it is POSSIBLE for you to do something that you want to do

Nothing passes by people that are Passionate
Passionate people stay focused on the game they love and the club they bruised and bled for and lived and died (Executed) for

Passion is The Competitive Edge
No one can deny that Toovey is a more Passionate Competitor than Seibold
No one !!!

Fire in his Manly Belly
Pound for pound Passion for Passion
Geoff Toovey is the Competitive edge

The knock on Toovs towards the end of his coaching stint at Manly, rightly or wrongly, was that he was too simplistic, ie just run harder than the other bloke type stuff. But at Origin level your not teaching players how to play as such, the head coach role is largely motivational, which is Toovs strong suit. Pair him with a couple of switched on assistants for the technical stuff and I think he's the perfect candidate.

The Great Wayne Bennet was once quoted that The game is a simple game and can be over coached and so he liked to keep things simple
Toovey's coaching methods earned him a top coaching winning ranking of 58 % including one grand final and three top 8 finishes
If that is a Bad coaching record .The World is not round It is flat

Lol yes if I recall correctly one prominent Manly player at the time said Tooves' coaching amounted to 'run hard, make a break, score a try' @:D
