it's incredibly simple: get RID of trials

I agree. Let's scrap the trials altogether not worth the risk of injuries. Am sure the players, especially those youngsters vying to make fg would also agree. There's plenty of other safer activities out there that can recreate the experience of playing competitive fg rugby league...

I struggle to think of a sport where they don't have pre season/warm up games

Would put us severely behind the 8 ball......and I dont get the "save them for games that matter" argument

By saving them, we would go in underprepared against teams that are finely tuned and lose 2-3 games that matter before we even get going
So who, that is expected to be in our round 1 team, didn't play in the trial. I just want to be sure which are the players that will be under prepared, can someone please put together a list so we can see what effect not playing the trial has on their round 1 performance.

Trials haven't finished but if you want a list after the Roosters game I can do one up to for?????

Roosters Keary breaks jaw at training .....

I have always said training is a very dangerous waste of time ...... why put players at risk ..... and for jesu Christo's sake can we please get somebody to ****en open doors for them .... please!!!

The reverse could then apply I guess. Players get injuries any old time so let's just make them do more, push harder. Why not do 10 trials, maybe 20. We could do 5 per week for all of January, after all players get injuries in training so it doesn't matter much does it.

The simple fact is it's more exposure to risk. The more exposure to that risk the greater the likelihood of injury. What is needed is exposure to risk when the benefits are likely to outweigh those risks. Trials are in my humble opinion a completely unnecessary risk. In this case Darcy is an experienced campaigner and would gain virtually nothing from playing a trial match, but the risks have been proven significant for nil return.
I disagree. If you have played the game at any level you would know that each year is a new team with new combinations. All the training in the world does not compare to the rigour of playing a game of league. So easing into it with some minutes is the go. You cant simulate timing and pressure required in training. Would be very ordinary r1 footy if there were no trial games.

Rugby league is the hardest team sport on earth. Injuries are part of the game at all levels. So are trials.
