Is this where we are headed ( NRL)

We should be one of those clubs that fights out premierships every year but with our current owner we have gone backwards in a big way during the last 10 years.

If we had an owner with deep pockets who funded the team we would be in the same position as we were from 2005-2015.
Back then we had players or could attract players for under market value wanting to be in a winning team.
That's why teams like Easts, Melbourne & Penrith will continue to be in the mix every year.
We need to pay overs to attract anyone these days and then the majority still won't sign here.

We’ll have lots of money next year and even more the year after but I bet we can’t attract a single really decent player

Yes , I can see it coming.

They’ll eliminate a few Sydney clubs to foster growth in areas they see as being better demographics.

Ipswich Jets ( west of Brisbane ) , absolute RL heartland.

Central Queensland ( ditto )

NZ South Island

And I reckon they’ll target Adelaide as well , a long long way from heartland but necessary in their fight with the AFL for TV dollars.

Clubs I see at risk - Manly , Dragons, Tigers

I think the Titans are safe , purely as a foil for the Gold Coast Suns.
Think we are pretty safe Mark, North Shore or Northern Beaches area is a massive area to abandon. Really can't see this happening to us.

And they have 4 premierships between them in the last 20 years.

Manly have 2.

Sorry I know we've gone through this at times but I disagree, its not as simple as money equals success. Broncos are a financial powerhouse and last won in 2006.

Put simply a well run club at all level leads to success.
Unfortunately we are neither rich nor well run

We won't have big money until we downgrade the Trbojevics, which is 2027. We have some cash next year thanks to DCE leaving but not crazy money.
So

AoA -medical retirement $650k
Sipley-UK $400k
GCKT- UK $200k

All rumoured

Croker - possible retirement $500k

Jazz-UK $400k
DCE- Rorters $850k

Potentially 3 million there , only incoming is Fogarty , I think he was $650k

Could be up to 2.4 million

I wouldn’t be so sure , the demographics there are hardly “ rugby league like “ these days , you certainly couldn’t call it “ heartland “.

Very much doubt Jazz or Toff were on 400k.

Also thought Aloiai's last contract was back towards the 500-550k mark.

But that is semantics, your point remains we should have some wiggle room

I reckon Dragons and Tigers are certainly safe well into the foreseeable future - their respective mergers pretty much guarantees this.

If NRL was to cull (which Vlandys and Abdo have clearly stated this is not at all under consideration), the clubs at risk would be Manly and Cronulla

Young players on the rise looking to sign elsewhere are looking to play at a successful club under a coach that they think will take them to the next level. Our philosophy of the last ten years to try to ride on the coat tails of our golden eras whilst signing players at the end of their careers and making questionable coaching choices has failed. Particularly in the situation of being one of the lesser financially backed clubs we need to get these strategies and choices 100% correct to even compete with the financially powerful clubs across a whole season. Canterbury's current success comes off the back of significant expenditure as a result of significant corporate backing. Sadly I see that the game has already gone down the path that Mark identifies. The game lost it's real identity when gambling and broadcast deals started generating big big money and IMO its now just about making money with little interest in the contest. If Manly fold I will stop watching the circus.

I think we are on the Edge of big growth of RL clubs who might just leave us behind

Expansion means the rise of super clubs with turnovers far larger than ours

Manlys growths seems limited

They are franchises. At some point more bids will come with more backing, bigger dreams, better business models and more growth potential and some clubs will weigh them all down.

Read recently chooks T/over over 50 mill with 5 mill revenue from real estate rentals

We dont seem to grow much

Those are just guesses to be honest , I think the base these days is around $220-$230 so I thought both players were worth more than that.

But yes semantics , the point is there will be wriggle room BUT will “ anyone “ ( decent ) come??

Highly unlikely

Yep I see us as being in real danger.

If we fold that’s the end for me , the NRL will be dead as far as I’m concerned concerned.

No clubs are going bust, where is all this coming from?

Yeah, it's confusing.

In one thread hes banging on about what a great little earner the club is for our illustrious owner.

Next minute we are folding.
