Firstly not out to jump on another bash Barrett thread...but in all sincerity, he had full control of signings and the Dogs performances have been in my opinion, far worse than how Dean Pay had them playing before he copped the boot.
I don't even mind Barrett and to a degree feel bad for the bloke, but at NRL level....I honestly don't understand why a team would chase him based on his previous records.
Before Manly he coached a Panthers Toyota cup sign from heavyweights to cellar dwellars, then the Manly debacle I won't even comment on....but this latest fiasko is looking ominous....will he be back in 2022 ?
He may have a contract. but will the Dogs look to wave goodbye based on where they sit today and more importantly, a bleak looking future.
The Fox and Burton are good editions but they are also such good players due to the systems they are part of and anyone thinking they will look as good at Dogs are in for a Massive Sad surprise.

1 - dunno

2 - Would think he'd be at the Dogs next year due to the signings you mentioned and be told "well you now have all you asked for, pressure is on".

So my 'guess' is yes he'll be the head coach at the dogs next season.

I mean your question said coach...I answered as if you meant head coach of an nrl team. If he gets the boot he may coach some under 12 side somewhere...!

He will be there next year - well for the start. They should improve - 12 to 10th but if they don't he is gone by mid year.

Our match aside there have been games where they have had more of a dig this year. Barrett will get next year but if results don’t start to show then see ya later. Sone very desperate signings for that team this year in hindsight. Flanagan, Corey Allan n co.

I felt sorry for the guy until he started claiming Manly,s current success as it is all his doing. I bet Des has a cramp from laughing so much at those comments... :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

He will be there next year one would think , The signings off JAC and Burton . Will help but Barrett still hasn't got an experienced half's or hooker they will struggle again Barrett just keeps purchasing wingers even Burton looks a better centre than 5/8
Now he is got the resources and apparently got money to spend if he can't get the dogs pushing for a top 8 spot next year I think his days will need numbered and be lucky to get another NRL coaching gig as the head coach

He won't be sacked this year because that would reflect badly on the people who hired him and I'm pretty sure the Dogs board is less worried about the club falling in a puddle than they are about their being splashed with mud when it happens.

Baz has signed some good players for next year but, so far, they play in positions where they need a team structure to work there magic. The Fox ain't the fox without plays and structures that give him room to run. Barrett hasn't shown that he can implement structures and game plans. Baz did OK for one year when Green took control of the team on field, but Green was a smart bloke who had been trained by Bellamy. Unless Trent manages to buy the complete, already cooked, spine of a successful team he will continue to waste what ever talent his players have.

Defence wise i noticed on the weekend that the Bulldogs backs are just starting to break ranks and run backwards in defence the way we were by the end of Barrett's reign.

Ide say next year will be his last...2 full preseasons under his belt, better players coming (well, Burton and Addo carr anyway).. if they are still the easy beats by round 10 or 11 next year he's gone.... No excuses

The Fox is a very very good finisher.

Doesn't mean Jack when the players inside him are not 1st grade standard.

See Chocritch as example #1.

Burton is in for a rude shock when he becomes the sole focal point of the Bulldogs attack, and opposition defences.

See DCE as example #2

IMO the difference between a good coach and bad coach is simple. A good coach knows how to win with the what they have.( chairs included) They not only know what technically to do but within reason modify this to the players within their team. Barrett knows what exactly needs to happen to win I also see he has the right interpersonal skills, the challenge for Barrett is that he can only win if everything falls into alignment for him and this includes the specific capabilities of his players. Throw in any level of chaos and adversity everything falls apart. This includes not exactly having the best team possible to implement his specific inflexible strategy. In other words he can not cope with adversity at all. If I was bulldogs management I would move him along as soon as possible unless they want stay at the bottom part of the ladder. In saying all this I think Barrett is a decent person and would make a great specialist assistant coach.

IMO Next year will be his last as a NRL head coach. He is popular so hell probably get another gig as an assistant. A few revolving doors in the coaching ranks in 2022 2023.

The problem with Barrett is that even when he gets some good players and they have the odd good win, he cannot get a team ‘up’ for the contest, week in, week out.

it was so obvious when he was at Manly that we were a toss of a coin on any given day. He doesn’t have the hard edge and the ability to instil resolve into the teams he coaches.

that is his biggest weakness IMO. There is talent and good football brain in there but his teams are mentally soft.

You hit the nail on the head when you identified that Barrett lacks the hard edge.

In 2017 when we made the finals The Incomparable Immortal was head of football and guiding Trent

In 2018 Trents ego and arrogance insulted the Incomparable Immortal and they fell out and Trent went solo

In his solo season he took this great quality list of players to one of the worst seasons in our clubs proud history

Trent rode this competitive list of players down to the ground just missing the wooden spoon on second last position .

Is this Barretts last season with the dogs ?

The Master of all excuses Trent will get another shot next year but when you consider he ran second last in the comp with this list of Quality players one would think that he has more change of getting fired by the dogs than firing the dogs to a successful second season

We can say that other coaches like Des and Gibson had poor seasons as well but to put Trent in the light of those Great proven coaches is getting ahead of our selves

The Myth perspective
Tent was the Rookie head coach that Gould endorsed to Manly but Trent was not the head coach that Gould promoted to his club the panthers

Trent was the so called Master attacking assistant coach that took all the credit for the Genius Nathan Cleary and made him what he is today.
The Myth was confirmed when he singed another promising young half that previously assisted the roosters to compete in finals footy as he coached him down to NSW cup level and not improving him at all .
Trent the Myth Master attacking coach has broken the dogs all time lowest scoring record as his team has posted the least point so far in the comp this season

Tent Quit Manly because as quoted he did not want to damage his " Brand " name reputation. Can you believe this ? What Brand ? His famous hair gel brand !

Instead of working with this group of talented players and showing some character and ability as head coach He took the easy way out and the easy money and quit and pissed off and he also pissed off All the Manly supporters as well

He should be gone this year if the results keep going south as they have

But he will likely see out next year.

Do I give a rats ? Not at all.

But it is fun stirring up the kennel about him
