Is Mestrov really our Messiah?

A real 2015 smell about this.I know he’s given everything and has represented the club well, but he owes the club, even if it’s something as minor as a year at a time contract, especially at his age.Interesting times ahead
He is a leader of the club and it’s different to 2015 for me, in 2015 he was a player and his vision was on himself.

As club captain for me it’s club first, team second and self third for me, this time it’s a real big up yours to the people and the club that have empowered him as club captain, they would be hurting from this circus.

Not inviting Seibs to his wedding.

I guess if his agent sat down with Scotty today and talked numbers.

It wasn't about Seibs when that meeting started.

Sounds like some butt-covering at best… “we tried our best, don’t blame us”…

Slip back down to the bottom 3 or 4 clubs for a season or two and see how quickly the Brookie crowd thins out… f*cking pelicans..
Reminiscent of Parramatta last year who came out guns blazing declaring they were after Wayne Bennett, while the entire world knew he had already done his deal with Souths

Back to the man whose name is in the title, the jury is still well and truly out for me

Listened to him extensively on James Grahams podcast series discussing the issues in the game last year, and his clear path wasn’t how can I make Manly the best club out there, it was more how the leading clubs could be pulled back closer to the pack

Mestrov and company have done a decent job in my view, only until now they are dragged through the media circus of the club captain.

The job they done with young Hoppa resigning was a job well done to all parties there, a 19 year old junior showing the club more respect than the current captain, if young Hoppa would have elected not to resign and put the club through a media circus then he would be criticised as a money grabber.
Personally I don’t see much similarity between contracts for those 2 players…

This isn't Mastrov's fault. Why would you offer a contract to your captain when he has told you he is still deciding whether he is playing on or retiring. Something has happened recently and a I reckon DCE has already made a deal elsewhere. And it isn't with a new franchise.

At least things are getting out fast rather than prolonged leaks over months of speculation, will be announcements this morning

Anyone watching the presser that Mestrov is doing right now?

Extracts below taken from Fox sports live blog - but honestly, its very coherent and honest.

Mestrov: I want to make this point. There's no animosity with Daly. There is no problem with Daly and the club, with me or the coach.
Mestrov: As far as we're concerned, Daly isn't certain what he wants to do. He's got a coaching offer from us.
Mestrov: We weren't blindsided. He's still not sure what he's going to be doing. I wasn't blindsided, he told us this in December, we just didn't want to tell the broader media. We respected him but what happened is the media has fast-tracked the situation.
Mestrov: We discussed a one-year extension in October but nothing was formally tabled. We discussed the two year deal with his manager and that it wasn't a knee jerk offer.
Mestrov: Maybe we could have done (the offer) in a better way and in-house... I'm not shying away, we don't shy away from anything
Mestrov: The offer is there for a coaching position. We wouldn't offer a coaching position if there was any animosity.

Mestrov: It's a shock to everyone else, but not necessarily to us. We wanted to give him his space... I don't think it looks like a knee jerk reaction. If he chooses to go to another club, he can go to another club... We think we've put forward a very strong offer.
We've known this day would possibly come

Watched it. Thought he was impressive, unflinching. Makes DCE look a bit silly for mine, going to the media with announcements before talking to the club of which he is captain.

And regardless of any possibility of the player changing his mind, Mestrov's straight bat about offering him a two year contract including a coaching position, hoping he will stay, and discussions happening in October last year, just leaves more questions about what on earth the player is doing. Smart.

Agree.
I have always been a DCE fan - but i think he has put a foot badly wrong here. He is playing against a master tactician in Mestrov, and he (DCE) has more to risk than the club do.
End of the day, THIS year is the window for DCE to win a comp..... not when he is almost 40.

This is worth a listen and will answer a few questions that may have been lingering.

Very good interview and helps fans understand the situation a lot better than if they solely listen to the media and their agendas.

I thought Mastrov's interview with Rothfield that was published in the Sunday Telegraph was a credit to Mestrov. His honesty was refreshing and his priority of looking after his players first and foremost was excellent. He is a exceptional CEO and I hope Penn keeps him there for a long time.

Tony Mestrov: "It could have been done better but we've moved on now"
Yes Things could have been done better (but Mestrov did not avoid the unnecessary Manly media circus saga )
It could have been done Much better by a Much Better CEO
His Knee Jerk late night contract offer on live NRL Gossip TV was very amateurish and embarrassing
His inability to get the Manly captain to front the Media with him and say there are no ill feelings between them was a lie another mediocre act .
His Inability to not learn from the players past motives read the contract negotiations two plays a head just goes to show how behind he is with other clubs Better CEOs

Best CEO we’ve had for years.

I’d say the “ late 2 year offer “ made by him live on air would have been a Scott Penn call rather than his own.

He’s smarter than that

Very impressive in my opinion.

I am just listening to all of that interview ...... it's 20 minutes. How can you say Mestrov is a dud? He comes across as very reasonable and sensible.
