Interesting stat i thought of.....

"2008 - Aus Open winner Novak Djokovic -2008 NRL winner MANLY"
"2011 Aus Open winner Novak Djokovic - 2011 NRL winner MANLY"
"2012 Aus Open winner Novak Djokivic - 2012 NRL winner ?????????"

Hope the trend continues this year 🙂

Well spotted EE. Here's another, to date 4 of Manly's 8 premierships were won in leap years. I dare anyone to find another club (with more than say 2 titles to their name) with such a good leap year/premiership conversion rate.

2012 therefore is shaping up as yet another potential leap year/premiership combo. And then the world will end in December and we will remain the NRL premiers in perpetuity.

Every dark cloud has a silver lining.

Leap year stats are interesting, but not sure it is as one sided as you think. You are right in that no one has more than 4 leap year premierships. Unfortunately there are a 4 on 4.
Manly 4
Tigers 4 (Balmain tigers)
Souths 4
Dogs 4

Easts 3
Saints 3
Wests 2
Brisbane 2

So you could spin it another way. Since 1972 only the Dogs, Manly and Brisbane have won during a leap year.

Back to back Leap year premierships are very common as well...
1916 Tigers
1920 Tigers
1924 Tigers

1928 Souths
1932 Souths

1936 Easts
1940 Easts

1948 Wests
1952 Wests

1956 Dragons
1960 Dragons
1964 Dragons

1972 Manly
1976 Manly

1980 Dogs
1984 Dogs
1988 Dogs

If this trend continues, it had better be us. Brisbane and The Dogs are two teams that I would really hate to win a premiership this year.

You realise there might be an opening since our last stats man went elsewhere ....

Five minutes after I wrote my post I remembered that the Dogs had won four of their eight premierships during leap years...

....bugger!

Dont beat yourself up as they did their run in the last century.

More noteworthy is that Manly are the only Team to keep opponents scoreless in GFs - EVER!

Lets cheer them on for the first B2B in this century 😀

Except for easts 1975

In 1977 St George beat Parramatta 22-0 in the GF replay. '77 and '78 were consecutive drawn grand finals, both being followed by a nil scoreline in the replay.
