Assigning tries solely to the skill of another such as Turbo is fraught with danger. Its like saying Olakau'atu's tries are only because of DCE. Both players have to have the skill to complete the task of scoring and assigning Garrick's tries to Turbo who was absent for 50% of the games is even less tangible. For example Parker had Turbo to assist over his eight years in the team. Yet he scored only 29 tries in that time. Garrick has been at Manly for six and a half years and has scored 77 tries. Of course many of those were on the wing but its easy to forget Garrick played full back in many games and has been centre for the past few years yet easily outscores Koula in that position. As for defence, I realise there were noted technical issues about positioning himself as was statistically demonstrated, but his recorded defence success rate is 88.7% while Koula's is 84.6%. Brooks is 86.8%.
Now statistics of course don't tell you everything, but there is such a thing as significant statistical evidence which means the results cant be just random but must be seen as relevant. If the differences in the figures are not great, it can be asserted as potentially random. But where it is wide and consistent variation it is not. Therefore the comparable figures which show Garrick distinctly superior in attack and defence to other players who have played in the wing and centre positions in recent years, implies his performance is superior.
Garrick is an undervalued player on this site. which is not shared by selectors both at club and International level. He is certainly no Turbo and the latter would replace him at any stage other than in goal kicking. But Garrick is a proven winger, (Dally M winger of the year 2021) and preferring him rather than Koula on the wing is understandable, despite the latter being faster. How many players could have set up that amazing 2021 try from behind the defensive goal line. Not many
