Thing is, this is where resilience is created....against the odds.

At Full strength after learning to Win without the Key Players, this team has just gone from the 12 - 16 rated teams to somewhere 5 - 7 imo, which is snapping at those Heavyweight contenders.
Pretty fair to have City/ Roosters as the Top 2....but have already toppled 1 of them in 2019.

The major Exciting factor has been the growth....every season a few teams excel and plenty disappoint, but this Manly side has been the considerable mover which again, is even better due to the Missing Star players.
Then we add the fact there is 2-4 serious young stars who will be available 2020.

Not to get too far ahead, but my expectation now has gone from "please avoid that dreaded spoon" to "if we missed the 8, would be tragic and I fancy a shot at 4-5" and after being upset with players out, now see it as a possible blessing with rookie players stepping up not just to fill a position in 2019, but to make a difference....and that's what they have achieved.

But I don’t really buy the injuries being a good thing Maxta .Sure it will be good experience for young guys but you can’t win the big show from outside the top 4 and my gut feel is this next string of 4 away games from 5 may finally find us out which takes top 4 out of the question. It’s been a tough weary slog and I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose most of them.

If you look at this comp it’s the roosters and the rest. At full strength who says we couldn’t make GF. It’s hard to think the lack of arguably the best or close to best halfback, fullback and prop in the world for lengthy stints won’t get us soon and it probably costs us that golden second chance.

And it's all down to a bloke that the 'experts' said was past his used by date.
The coaching and support systems implemented have paid dividends so far this year.
While I hold the same amount excitement and hope as some of you even if we fade towards the back end of the year I have already seen enough to suggest a positive and successful period is on it's way.

Hey Sue - Yeh probably not a clean explanation....more about getting the Wins with these "Fill ins" who are going to get a fair bit of confidence out of it and we all know that with the Big guns back, the team will improve an extra 25 - 30% which is Massive considering the lofty standards the team is currently setting !!
Your summary is also a fair outcome with the next 5 games results, but they have already surprised in games expected to lose, so 3 / 5 is possible and keeps us well in the hunt.
As I mentioned - out of ALL the teams across the NRL, Manly is the greatest improver and that is minus the Maroon and White glasses......and to be the leader in this capacity (minus the Stars) is where I was going in relation to the injuries....it may galvanate the team more.
Often teams that have star players tend to rely on so much, the other players kind of wait around for them to produce a piece of magic to get the chocolates....where as when you learn to ALL chip in and contribute, such as recent weeks, THIS builds a Champion team and those X factor players find even more opportunities in this environment, playing in a team full of Energy.

100 per cent agree. I can’t believe how well this team plays.. Its so good to have the club back to usual transmission. I actually said to a couple of non manly guys over a beer yesterday that there was no reason if we had our top players we couldn’t make the GF. To my eternal surprise they agreed. That’s how far we’ve come.
And so what if we lose a few now. I’ve seen enough to know this is a damn good footy side.

What's even better is that we have beaten two of the current top 4, and of our three losses:

One was handed to our opponents by the refs, one was a fairly competitive loss to the roosters, and the other was an off day in the wet at the start of the season. We are doing very well!

Manly are winning because they are sticking to the fundamentals, are playing as a team, are playing tough, good defence and they are much fitter. Its a bunch of blokes who believe in Dessie and lift themselves with self belief. Take no prisoners. Play for the guys around you. Dessie knows how to coach but more importantly he knows how to get players believing in him and themselves. He gets better every year.
