Just how important is team harmony ?
I reckon the current 2019 is a great example.
Manly have players buying into the Manly culture of the Golden period and the defence can be a great guide to this Attitude.
Also off field they seem such a happy bunch of mates, as a group they bash up the opposition lockers (Taufua leading the way) and the idea to bring back past Legends (Particularly Snake Stewart) just adds to the history and harmony of what they are building.
Players seem ok taking a bit less coin to be part of the Winning formula 9rare in the modern game) and the life on the Northern beaches (AFB and Thommo as an example).
Then you have the likes of Penrith and Newcastle who are a rabble internally, with bickering feuds with he coaches and players and the results....well I don't think its just a coincidence and you can visually see the body language watching them play, they are not enjoying their footy.
The Manly roster is pretty good and in fact, have some Top shelf quality in key positions, but the point I'm aiming at, is the fact regardless of a few star players and a decent 17, you will still get found out and struggle in the NRL without team harmony....well this is reminiscent of 2007 from what I can see, I just hope for a better ending....
In saying that just really proud to be a Manly supporter with a team giving their all in and fighting every week regardless of the score.
Is the team harmony absolute key to success from coaches, assistants and the entire staff involved with any NRL team who wants to go all the way, I say its the catalyst and the results are heavily based on this factor.....what's the thoughts Silvertails ??

It's massive. I have a feeling that might have been part of why Kelly and Frankenstein were let go. Des might have seen a more unified team to be had in their absence, or maybe he just wasn't impressed by them.

Either way our squad looks a lot better this year, as a unified whole.

Manly had similar issues in 2015 with the old guard clique 😎

In sport it is simply solved by playing to win out on the field.

Knights/Riff had no issues until they started to lose :shake:
Then they began looking to apportion blame outside of themselves 😕

Manly have a new generation of players who value each other's input on and off the field.
May it continue and produce the results that the previous era did :inlove:

Team harmony cannot be overrated, it's a vital component to winning.

It's one of the major intangibles needed for success.

It enables positive learning from mistakes & losses, which result in wins.

It also means the players are not only performing their duties well, they are exceeding their requirements & filling any gaps that appear, & are enjoying themselves while doing so.

It's a great feeling, being part of a team that has harmony.

It's also a great feeling when the team you support has that harmony.

Harmony is fine but if the players all get along well but only want to spend their time drinking and doing sex videos etc you won't have much of a season.
No doubt many factors can affect the relationship dynamics within an NRL squad. So someone has to set the mood, standards and goals and do it in such a way that the whole squad buys in.

You only have to look at Drugcastle ATM to see what a divided playing group is like, I'm putting some $$ on Gold Coast this week.

What makes you say that?
Perhaps he knows something we don’t.

If I was Hasler and observing Manly’s performances last year, then I couldn’t go past Frank Steinlager’s effort in not passing to a player in a better position than he (with the tryline a few metres away), in that embarrassing capitulation to the Titans. He passes there and we probably still hang on to win. You can accept that from less experienced players, but he has been in the NRL/Euro Rugby since 2011. He should have known better and therefore:

“Frank you’re fired, and take your anti-vax wife with you.”

Harmony. esprite de corps, attitude team spirit ... however you label it ... all the successful teams have it .... but what comes first .. the success or the harmony .... when you are losing, the liitle shiite seems more important ... when you are winning, the little shiite seems irrelevant ....

Many many things have to align to make a successful season ... but when they do ... it is a thing of beauty ...

Funny thing is .. it can take only one person to completely make a huge change in a playing group ... like a Ben Kennedy .... or the altenative ... a lost soul like Hastings ....

This playing group and coaching staff we have at the moment seem to be golden ... long may it last ...

Unity , Resilient culture and Harmony all start at the top

From inspirational great leaders like Winston Churchill . Nelson Mandella John F Kennedy and our very own Desmond Hasler

These Strong leaders who know the way , show the way and lead the way .

I read somewhere that each of the Manly players had to give up something important to them until the end of the season (with at least one not touching alcohol). You have to think that giving up something important to them reinforces that personal importance to the greater goals of the side as well as a mutual sharing with fellow teammates of a sacrifice for the cause. And it promotes (and so far rewards) the virtues of commitment and self discipline.

I take your point .... but you may need to re-think your examples ... leaders yes ... harmony ... not so much .. Churchil was a polarising fiqure that battled his own parliament as much as he did the Germans ... and was dumped out of office within months of the wars end .. Mandela was a "terrorist" leader and harmony is not a word used often to describe South Afikan politics ... and jfk was known for his opponents as much as his friends ... and being assasinated sort of takes the harmonious out of the picture ....

But at least Dessie seems to be going good ...

We should all try this.

In fact I give up my Wife. I'm happy to put her in a box and keep her in the shed till end if season. (In a loving and nurtured sort of way).

Craig Bellamy was on the news saying that Melbourne are not proud of what happened at the "battle of Brookie" and he dared to speak for us by saying that Manly weren't proud either. I thought myself "whoah whoah, back up there sweetcheeks" I distinctly remember Darcy Lussick saying "best day of my life" hehehe touche' Darcy, touche'

Harmony is about culture and keeping ego's in check. Sadly we've seen it happen at different clubs over the years. including ours, where players don't respect their coach and think they run the joint. Its got to be a tough gig being a first grade coach managing these young athletes and their varying personalities and egos. Then add keeping the owners, the board and the supporters happy into that mix (Namely winning). We have a squad that respect their coach, a senior playing group with a great work ethic and young players that respect both their coach and their senior playing group. Des is the rock and our squad consists of young men that are not only great athletes are the personalty types that fit our culture and embrace it. We definitely need to be careful about who we recruit in the future to ensure that they are going to be a good fit into our culture.

Bellamy prefers his team’s violent and dirty play to be subtly distributed over 80 minutes. He can’t stand it all boiling over into a 30 second brawl.

Being happy where you work is vital for any organisation because its a reason you'd be more inclined to stay even if other organisations offer you more money. Very obvious benefit when it comes to managing the cap in the NRL, and thats excluding player motivation to put in 100% for you.
